In this world of perennial business volatility and an ever-transforming corporate landscape, a working executive needs to continue remaining in the learning loop to synthesize his work experience with managerial education. Any gap in learning will only result in inefficiency and loss of competitive advantage. Therefore Executive education is much in vogue today as many executives want to remain employed while acquiring further education. A Part-Time MBA is a meaningful proposition for such aspirants as it enables a working manager to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to do his job better while remaining on the job.

The 3-years Part-Time MBA is a well-conceived program to bring quality management education to a working student. Value Proposition of Program

The 3-years Part-Time MBA brings the coveted MBA to a working executive with the rigor and the substance of a traditional MBA albeit in a part-time mode. This is a win-win proposition for those students who look for up gradation of their academic qualifications while retaining their job. The Part-Time MBA is designed to offer enough flexibility to a working executive to learn in well-timed sessions which are set in a highly interactive academic ambience. It provides opportunity for very strong peer learning which reinforces the academic concepts as participants already often enjoy managerial and supervisory roles in the corporate organizations. This part-time MBA is one of the widely recognized MBA programs and due to its well-researched contents and pedagogy; it is perhaps one of the best investments in education for any working executive.

Program Objectives

This executive MBA program is meant for executives who have spent quality time in the industry and have adequate exposure to the managerial role and responsibilities. The 3¬years PT MBA program will offer an opportunity to the participants to hone their managerial skills and enable them to contribute better to their managerial decision making.

The program covers several aspects of managerial functioning that are critical to a manager’s effectiveness. It also focuses on decision-making situations that enable the participants to understand the nature of management situations, develop frameworks for analyzing these situations, generate and evaluate options, and choose an appropriate option based on available information. Developing a strategic perspective is an important focus of the program as it would help the participants to develop competencies to analyze the linkages within the business and with the external business environment. This enables the participants in formulating comprehensive and internally consistent strategies for the business unit and in thinking through the issues in implementing them.

The cases reflecting global management experiences will provide participants an opportunity to discuss issues and challenges in their context. The program offers an enriching interaction and academic orientation to the executive who seeks to achieve a work-study balance and seeks to boost his career through an industry-recognized MBA

Pedagogy

The Institute believes that self–learning is the best means of learning, especially at the post–graduate level, and accordingly, faculty should act as facilitators more than teachers. A great deal of emphasis is therefore placed on experiential learning. Students are required to work on a number of corporate and academic research projects during the two years they are on campus. In addition, teaching is heavily oriented towards case studies, presentations, quizzes, assignments, field – visits, workshops and labs. A variety of seminars are organised by students and faculty members during the academic session.

There is a strong belief in ‘learning by doing’ at the University and in the dictum that true management education goes beyond the classroom. The students are therefore exposed to ‘non-management’ programs like yoga, music appreciation, literature appreciation, etc., and are encouraged to participate in all co-curricular activities. Field–visits, projects and seminars in areas of social marketing are other methods employed regularly to improve the social sensitivity of students.

Scientists have developed a new bionic computer chip that can be mated with human cells to combat disease. The tiny device, smaller and thinner than a strand of hair, combines a healthy human cell with an electronic circuitry chip.Doctors can control the activity of the cell by controlling the chip with a computer.

It has long been established that cell membranes become permeable when exposed to electrical impulses. Researchers have conducted genetic research for years with a trial-and –error process of bombarding cells with electricity in an attempt to introduce foreign substances such as new drug treatments or genetic material. They were unable to apply a particular level of voltage for a particular purpose. With the new invention, the computer sends electrical impulses to the chip, which triggers the cell’s membrane pores to open and activate the cell in order to correct diseased tissues. It permits physicians to open a cell’s pores with control.

Researchers hope that eventually they will be able to develop more advanced chips whereby they can choose a particular voltage to activate particular tissues, whether they be muscle, bone, brain or others . They believe that they will be able to implant multiple chips into a person to deal with one problem or more than one problem.

13) The author implies that scientists are excited about the new technology because  ____________________

  1. it is less expensive than current techniques.

  2. it allows them to be able to shock cells for the first time.

  3. it is more precise than previous techniques.

  4. it is possible to kill cancer with a single jolt.

14) The author states that scientists previously were aware that, ____________

  1. they could control cells with a separate computer.

  2. electronic impulses could affect cells.

  3. electric charges could harm a person.

  4. cells interact with each other through electrical charges.

15) The author indicates that it is expected doctors will be able to place __________

  1. one large chip in a person to control multiple problems.

  2. more than one chip in a single person.

  3. a chip directly inside a cell.

  4. a chip inside a strand of hair.

QUANTITATIVE

16) Which of the following equations has a root in common with x 2–6x + 5 = 0

1. x2+ 1 = 0                         2. x2- x – 2 = 0                       3. x2- 10x – 5 = 0               4. 2x2- 2 = 0

17) The amount of time that three secretaries worked on a special project are in the ratio of 1 :2 : 5. If they worked a combined total of 112 hours, how many hours did the secretary who worked the longest spend on the project?
