Overview, Content & Syllabus

The Ministry of Defence has initiated a Resettlement Policy with the objective of providing a smooth “Career Transition” to Armed Forces Officers who are either short services officers, seeking premature retirement or leave on superannuation. Amongst the top B-Schools of the country, NMIMS is one of the major contributors in achieving the objective of career transition. After successful conduction and 100% placement of the first six batches, the Seventh batch is in progress with 38 Defence Officers from Army, Navy and Air Force.

A person from Defence is trained to handle any situation envisaged in the management philosophy. They are disciplined, have a sense of integrity and excellent leadership qualities that can fit well within an organisational structure. Officers are cohesive, self-starters, enthusiastic learners and have an extremely steep learning curve. Working in teams and leadership comes quite naturally to them.

Their metamorphosis from their battle fatigues to business suits seems incredibly so simple, progressing rapidly towards becoming tech-centric, and has resulted in these officers being extremely comfortable with emerging concepts and latest trends. These individuals have consistently proved to be high-achievers. Direction and objectives were only needed to be defined and the results were outstanding.

Program Introduction

The SBM Defence Services Programs for defence forces officers who have chosen to be groomed at NMIMS for an orientation program of the corporate world. The current program has 38 participants comprising serving officers from the Defence Services. The school grooms these officers who have rich experience ranging from 5 to 30 years in the fields of Operations, Logistics, HRM, Security and Administration. The school has taken on the 7th batch after successfully placing 6 batches into the private sector at middle and senior level management positions.

DGR Message

The backbone of the armed forces have always been and will be their human resources drawn from all corners of India and representing a microcosm of our society. The men and women are carefully screened in mind and body before they don their various uniforms. These officers are put through their paces not only at the service academies where they learn their hexes, but also in real-live situations where quick thinking and willingness to stick their necks out can tilt the balance of life and death in their favour.

However, the pyramidal structure of services mandates that a number of well-trained and motivated officers will invariably side-step into the corporate world at some stage in their careers. All these officers possess the best qualities that employers everywhere seek to imbibe in their staff. Their transition into the corporate world is facilitated by prestigious institutes like NMIMS, who impart high quality and intensive management training, aimed at equipping an officer with sound knowledge of the essentials of management.

I am convinced that these officers would continue to work in the same professional manner as they have done in the armed forces which has made our nation proud and definitely would be an asset to any organization.

I wish them all the very best. God bless and God speed.
