COURSE STRUCTURE
The course structures for various B.Tech. programs are given in subsequent pages, which are subject to review and revision by the Board of Studies in Engineering Sciences and approval of the Academic Council of the University.
Program Incharge’s Message
The IT scene, globally, had its ups and downs and is now back in the saddle again. The industry is growing at a fast clip and the need for quality IT professionals is on the rise. MPSTME’s Department of Information Technology has always kept its ears close to the ground, and ensures that the continually evolving curriculum factors in industry needs. We have ensured that the students are provided quality inputs through research oriented faculty. We strongly believe in going beyond the textbooks and classrooms. We ensure that the students have in-depth awareness of the latest technology through technology research papers, technology market research, industry internships, innovative projects that push the envelope, participation in technology conferences and competitions, and well equipped labs with state-of-the-art tools. To ensure a leading edge, the faculty and students exploit NMIMS university’s library of e-journals like IEEE digital library, Gartner research, etc. The industry expertise is brought in through academic projects with industry collaboration, and guest sessions by industry experts. The department runs collaborative programs with CISCO, leading to certification. Further, it has setup the IBM Center of Excellence, in collaboration with IBM.
The department is led by Dr. Vijay T. Raisinghani (M.Tech and PhD IT,IIT Bombay), with around 18 years of R&D and delivery experience in organizations like TCS, TATA Infotech, etc. The department boasts of excellent experienced and well qualified faculty from domains such as Computer Networks, Database, Data Warehousing and Mining, Parallel Processing, E and M-commerce/Web Technology, Distributed Computing, Image Processing, Software Engineering, etc.

Pedagogy

Updated Curriculum
Curriculum for the B. Tech course is continuously improvised based on inputs from Industry Experts and also keeping in mind the upcoming trends in the technology sector, to provide the best quality training to the students and keep them in sync with the happenings in their disciplines.
Application Orientation
State of the art laboratories facilitates the students to apply andimplement the concepts conceived during theory sessions. The course includesIndustrial Training in a sandwiched pattern to keep the students aware andupdated about the current trends and developments in the market. In most of thesubjects, there will be theory and practical classes. Time table will be forapproximately 32 to 36 contact hours per week for B. Tech programs. In theFourth year of the course approximately 40% of the time will be allotted forindustry based project work for which guidance by the faculty will be availableand the students will be required to make presentation of the project work.
Academic Rigor
Students are evaluated with multiple assignments, hands on exercises, mini projects, surprise tests,group activities and presentations. All the resources are available to themonline via the Blackboard e-Education Platform of NMIMS. Student is required tohave minimum of 80% attendance in the classes for every subject and mustcomplete all the term work prescribed for the subjects.
Forevery subject 50 marks will be assigned for continuous assessment: 5 marks forattendance, 20 marks for class Tests, 25 marks for term work containingpractical work, and/or assignments and practical/oral exam. The term end examwill be assigned marks out of 50. For passing in a subject, student must obtaina minimum of 50% marks in combined total of continuous assessment and term endexam.
The class will be awarded at the end of every year on the basis of total marks orGrade point Average obtained by the student subject to earning prescribedminimum credits during the year.
The class for final degree will be awarded on the basis of performance during thefinal year for B. Tech. Courses.
Insight Development
Creditsystem with flexibility is planned to allow students to learn at their own pace.The fast learners may earn more credits than minimum prescribed for the B. Techdegree and it maybe possible to register for 5 year integrated M.Tech programmeif offered. The slow learners will be allowed to register subjects and continuestudy for more than 4 year period without any break.
A number of cocurricular projects are offered to develop the holistic perspective of studentstowards the emerging technology trends. It acts as an industry interface forthe students which transform them to professionals.
Admission Process

Online Test
All eligible candidates who are registered successfully & will be called for the online test, scheduled on 12th May 2013.
Call Letter / Admit Card
1. On the basis of information indicted in the Application Form, your call letter/ admit card for the Admission Test & the venue (School/College) at each centre will be communicated to the candidate as per important dates through the website.
2. Please check important dates put on the website.
3.You are required to download the call letter/admit card from our NMIMS website
4. No candidate, without call letter/admit card or without the photograph on the call letter/admit card will be permitted to appear for the test.
5. No separate call letter will be mailed/posted.
6. Candidate must carry requisite ID proof while appearing for NMAT(UG) 2013.
Selection Process
1. Merit list will be prepared on the basis of the performance of the candidate in NMAT(UG) 2013.
2. Candidates will be called for counseling session at Mumbai based on the merit list.

FAQs
Can I do B.Tech Project outside my department?
The main guide must be from the Information Technology department with whom the offered project may be conducted as a joint work with a faculty member from another department acting as a co-guide.
Is there any particular office timings for the students to meet the professor personally in case of any difficulty in the subject?
The student has to find out the free time of the professor from his daily schedule of conducting lectures and research work.
