FAQ
1) What is the tie-up between YCMOU and St. Angelo’s ?
YCMOU is an open university offering various programs in Computer science, commerce, management, etc. and they appoint study centers to execute their degree programs.
St. Angelo’s Kandivali(W) and Mulund (W) centers has been approved as study centers by YCMOU for offering degree programs in BCA and BSC(BIS). This means that St. Angelo’s becomes a COLLEGE where the students can enroll for 3 yrs degree programs in BCA and BSC(BIS).
2) What is YCMOU?
The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) is an open university set up in July1989 by Act XX (1989) of the Maharashtra State Legislature. The degree/diploma of this University is treated as equivalent to the degree/diploma of any other university for the purpose of employment in government and semi-government establishments.
The following letter from UGC gives the proof of the same.
3) Is degree awarded by YCMOU or any open university recognized for government jobs or further post graduation programme?
YES, All the degrees –diploma offered by open universities are recognized and treated equivalent to degrees awarded by other universities in the countries. The UGC letter referred in the above question already mentions that.

5) Where is the University situated?
The University is located at:- Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Dnyangangotri, Govardhan, Near Gangapur Dam, Nashik – 422 222.
6) What is the concept of the study centre?
The Study Centre is authorized to conduct computer programmes offered by the university. Depending on the infrastructure of the study centre, specific programmes are assigned to that centre. The list of study centres along with courses assigned can be viewed at YCMOU website. The Study centre coordinator will give the completion certificate for the completed workbook. The YCMOU study centres perform the following important functions:

Conduct the Computer Courses as prescribed by the University in a conventional manner.

Distribution of prospectus to the learner and collection of application form/fees.

Forward necessary information to University on need basis.

Organize viewing of audio/video lectures

Organize counseling sessions at regular intervals according to YCMOU norms and patterns.

Facilitate delivery of instructional material and arrange practical sessions

Act as an examination centre.

Provide any other additional facilities for the students benefit.
Student should carry out the entire computer practical on the study centre. The coordinator / instructor of the study centre will supervise the practical activities.
7) What are the degree programmes offered by the computer school of YCMOU?
The degree programs offered by YCMOU through its Computer School are:
BCA (Bachelor in Computer Applications)
The School of Computer Science is one of the eight schools of studies located at the headquarters of the university. The computer school has a vision to create computer literacy by taking computer education to the masses. The school envisages to:

Develop degree, postgraduate and research level computer programmes for creating professional manpower required by the IT industries.

Develop need based and job oriented short-term computer programmes to meet the huge demand of IT skilled manpower in business and industries.

8) What is the duration of the degree courses?
The BCA programme has the minimum duration of 3 years. Student should complete it within 5 years. But if anyone fails to complete the degree within 5 years he/she will be required to re-register for the programme again.
A semester system has been adopted by YCMOU for its academic programmes. In this scheme, an academic year consists two semesters each of 6 months duration.
Thus BCA have 6 semesters (2 semesters per year).

10) How many times the degree course admissions can be done for these programs in a year?
The admission of degree programme shall be done only once in a year whereas examinations shall be conducted at the end of each semester. The dates of admission are available on the website.
11) What is the eligibility of the degree programme in BCA?
The student should have passed:

XII th of HSC Board of Maharashtra, or its equivalent examination OR
-
3 year Diploma of Board of Technical Examination or equivalent
12) What is the language of Instruction?
The medium of instruction of programme is English Language only. All the Printed Study Material of computer programme is in English language. Examination will be in English language. However, your co-ordinator, instructor or counsellor may use either English/Marathi/Hindi/Any other language to help the students understand the subject well.
13) What is the role of the University?
The university offers instructional package consisting of the following components:

15) Are there any exam fees to be paid separately?
NO, The fees include the exam fees for the first attempt. For re-examination fees, details are available on the website.
16) What is the process of admission?
The following instructions are being given to help you to fill up the admission form.

Fill the application form carefully in CAPITAL and put the signature and date on it.

Degree students have to fill the courses in the table *Course name and Course code applied for on the 2nd page of the admission form.

Attach photocopy of requisite qualification and cast certificates (attach attested copies only) to the application form.
-
Paste the passport size photo on the application form.
-
Study centre co-ordinator will verify and sign the application form.
-
The study center has to submit duly filled and verified application forms before the last-date-of-submission at the university along with relevant documents and the demand draft of the university fees.
-
Take the receipt from the study center and preserve it till your admission is confirmed.
Application forms received after the last-date-of-admission with late fees will be rejected.
17) What are the documents required to be attached with the admission form?

NO, They have to submit the forms at the study center only.
Note:- Admission forms sent directly to the University will not be accepted. University does not take any responsibility of such admission forms.
19) Can the student change the study centre?
Student once registered, cannot change the study center in between the academic year or the semester for which the fees has been paid. However, while taking the admission to next year, student can change the study center. Student should fill the form from the new study centre.

21) How many students can be registered for BCA?
Totally 120 students can be registered under both the courses as we have 2 study centers (60 per centers).
22) What will be the execution strategy and training methodology for the programme?
All the admissions of BCA across all the centers will be sent to the study center for education, specific batches will be allotted and students will have to attend the class in these batches only. The students being enrolled at other centers should be informed very clearly that batches will be conducted at the study centers only. The students will be provided training as per the session plan of YCMOU and will be given the video sessions through DVD’s provided by YCMOU. The practicals will be done by the students at the study centre itself.
23) Training will be conducted at which centers?
The training will be conducted at Kandivali center for Western centers and at Mulund center for Central and Harbour centers.
24) What is the total duration of the lectures?
One and half hours – two hours, alternate days, three days a week, theory and practical. Students are allowed to practice all days of the week subject to availability of computers.
25) Which Study material will be provided to BCA students?
YCMOU study material will be provided to the student as per the details available on the website.
26) Can the course be completed before 3 years?
NO, The minimum duration has to be 3 years and maximum duration can be 5 years.
27) How many students will be there in a batch?
There will be 15 – 20 students per batch.
28) Will the student be allowed to take individual programme (subject) admission?
NO, Student will be enrolled for BCA degree course only.
29) Is Loan facility available?
Currently not available, will be updated once it is available.
30) Can student take a break during the course semester?
NO, If student goes on break, the subject which he missed, he has to cover on his own.
31) How the exams will be conducted for the students?
As per university module, the online exam dates are already mention in point no. 20, if any changes will be updated.
32) What is the required percentage in 12th for seeking admission to BCA degree programme?
The student should have passed his 12th Exam with minimum passing marks.
33) Is there any age criterion for taking admission to BCA degree programme?
NO, Any student interested to learn BCA can be enrolled for this course from stream who matches the eligibility.
34) Can student take the admission form with him, and bring later on filled form for admission?
NO, The admission process and form filling will be done at the center only.
