SPPSPTM offers two years M. Pharm with Pharmaceutical Chemistry as specialization to pharmacy graduates who wish to take up pharma-chemistry as their profession.
In the first year of this program, students learn 8 technical subjects and one subject of English and communication. The subjects cover the areas of medicinal chemistry, drug design, molecular modeling, synthetic chemistry, instrumentation and international regulation for registration of API in Europe and USA.
In the second year students take up two projects, one major in the cases of specialization spreading over two trimesters and second minor in the cases other than specialization (one of the elective) spreading over one trimester.
Major research project selection is based on interest of industry and mainly on the application of technology to specific problems. It is obligatory on the part of the students and faculty to publish a paper from the projects carried out during this course.
The object of this model is to train the students so that they are ready for employment in industry and are trained in more than one area of research. They are also aware of international regulation and have exposure to registration of API and formulations in regulated market.
