The academic curriculum of Communication Design at GD Goenka University allows students to easily blend into a global network while acquiring a greater appreciation of local industry trends. The multidisciplinary and broad based structure aims at an all round development. Deriving from the changing paradigms of industry and commerce, its content as well as the methodology has been designed to suit the need of the emerging sectors in design education. The teaching staff shall be a mix of design, engineering, arts, architecture and other professional and entrepreneurial sectors making a fundamental contribution to the Indian & Global Design culture. A number of entrepreneurs, experts, designers, project professionals, craftsmen and personalities in the fields of services & culture as well as of professional associations shall contribute to the team of teachers and play an essential role in the education program.
The program in Communication Design ensures a solid foundation in the discipline as well as competency in methodology and technical-operations. The study of theories and methods is considered as important a part of academic experience as design conceptualization and actualization in workshops. In particular, technological competencies are acquired in areas such as visual, graphical, photographic, typographic and video techniques, treatment of images, visual and audiovisual representation and mechanisms. The intention is to provide necessary competencies to manage communication design practice in its full spectrum; editorial, media, image, packaging and also interactive and multimedia communication systems supported by digital technologies

Subject Specific Knowledge, Understanding and skills
This degree scheme aims to develop student's knowledge, understanding of the basic elements of communication design. Students would develop an understanding of a wide range of issues in design, analyze related problems and evaluate. On completion of the degree, students will be able to demonstrate the following:

The acquisition of a good level of basic skills in Communication Design

Knowledge of the historical context: the sociology of consumption; design culture and its historical evolution, the study of semiotics and aesthetics, anthropology, etc.

Understanding of Design Trends and their consumption scenarios

The basic elements of design and manufacture of products; Their materials and production techniques

The techniques and tools for the visual and physical representation; manual drafting, technical drawing, photography, creating models and prototypes;

Knowledge of colour, the mechanisms of visual perception and color systems;

The acquisition of basic skills in prototyping techniques, manufacturing technologies and processes;

An ability to undertake effective research
Pathways Available: BSc (3 yrs) / BDes (4yrs)
Students after successful completion of 3 years of study will have two choices (a) to move out with a BSc degree OR (b) to continue for 1 more year for a BDes degree

The admission will be based on performance in Design Aptitudes Test (DAT) followed by a personal interview.

GD Goenka School of Fashion & Design (SOFD) will be piece de resistance of the GD Goenka University*. Being established in academic collaboration with the famous Politecnico Di Milano School of Italy, the school will bring the edgy Italian design education to Indian students.
The School of Fashion & Design is promoted by the GD Goenka Group. The objective of the School is to offer high quality education in selected areas of Fashion and Design businesses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels with a view to build a generation of creative professional designers, capable of serving as change agents of the growth and development of the diverse and decentralized sectors of their respective industry segments.
