Research encompasses elements of creativity and talent which need appropriate teaching and methodological support. Creativity, in fact, arises from a profound knowledge of the field and continuous ability in research, transfer and hybridisation of languages and cultures. The academic curriculum of Fashion Design Masters at GD Goenka University allows students to easily blend into a global network while acquiring a greater appreciation of local industry trends. The multidisciplinary and broad based structured aims at an all round development. Deriving from the changing paradigms of industry and commerce, its content as well as the methodology has been designed to suit the need of the emerging sectors in design education. The teaching staff shall be a mix of professional and entrepreneurial sectors making a fundamental contribution to the Indian & Global Design culture. A number of entrepreneurs, experts, designers, project professionals, craftsmen and personalities in the fields of services & culture as well as of professional associations shall contribute to the team of teachers and play an essential role in the education program.
The Masters programme in Fashion Design aims to create well rounded professional equipped with the appropriate design skills and solid theoretical and practical training, well prepared to support the strategic objectives of the industry in the competitive global fashion business. The programme builds on the inputs of the UG programme of study of cultural, scientific, methodological and technical elements which form the basis of design in the field of fashion products, i.e. those which refer to the textile, garment and fashion accessory sectors. The curriculum while providing advanced scientific knowhow; develops individual capacity for research, continuous learning, planning and strategic design intervention. Advanced courses in core disciplines allow exploration of more innovative ambits of Design for the fashion System. Special attention will be paid to in-depth study of the peculiar “cultural” and “social” nature of fashion products and their complex, brand-linked, product-service relationship i.e. accessories, textiles and household items, cosmetics – events, display spaces, etc. Finally, inputs on marketing and strategic management aspects and knowledge of the entire value chain will complete the profile.
Career Opportunities
The institute places very high importance on career plans of graduating students and has a fully functional training and placement division. This division is in constant networking with the industry, to open new avenues for the students in the professional & business structures of the fashion industry and their supply chains.
Fashion Design as a career option has really evolved in the last decade. The Indian Fashion Industry is now values at 300.000 crores and is projected to grow rapidly in product categories such as knitwear, footwear, sportswear, accessories, jewelry or costumes. Graduates of Masters programme will be capable of supervising the design/creative activities of fashion companies, coordinating design teams and the functions involved in the development process, particularly so where product-service markets are concerned. They can also work with professional firms handling trend analysis / research / forecasting & product development. Education, blogging, journalism, publication are other options.

Admission Criteria
The admission will be based on a combination of performance in Portfolio / Examination and personal interview. A candidate with work experience would get advantage. S/he should have scored a minimum average of 55% across all 3 (or 4) years of an undergraduate degree.

GD Goenka School of Fashion & Design (SOFD) will be piece de resistance of the GD Goenka University*. Being established in academic collaboration with the famous Politecnico Di Milano School of Italy, the school will bring the edgy Italian design education to Indian students.
The School of Fashion & Design is promoted by the GD Goenka Group.
