Bachelors in Filmmaking (BFA) in Film + Media (JNAFAU)
![]() by Annapurna International School of Film and Media (AISFM)Hyderabad |
Eligibility: (Pre-requisites) | 12th standard/10+2 in any stream, with minimum marks of 50%. |
Medium of instruction: | English |
This bachelor’s degree combines a rigorous liberal arts education with mass comm/mass media classes and a specialization in one aspect of filmmaking, such as direction, editing, cinematography or production. Students are also offered electives in a range of filmmaking subjects in order to broaden their training. On completion, students have the option of entering the industry, or continuing with post-graduate education.
Overview
This degree, offered for the first time in India, allows students to complete an American-style four-year graduation, which provides both a broad liberal arts education as well as a specialisation in one area of film and media. This course is a superior alternative to a more general degree in mass communication (mass comm) or mass media, as it provides career-oriented technical training in addition to the theoretical content.
The first year of the course is a foundation year. Students cover film and media from every angle as well as jumping into their liberal arts classes.
At the end of the first year, students select one specialisation. We are currently planning to offer Directing, Producing, Editing and Cinematography.
In the second and third year of the degree, students focus on their specialisation, which forms half of the classes, while continuing with their liberal arts education.
Additionally, each semester, students will be able to select their own electives, from both Liberal Arts and Media categories, allowing students to customise their study program to include their personal interests.
The fourth year is based on industry experience. There are few formal classes, instead students work on major projects, complete internships in the industry and work on AISFM initiatives including our Film Fund and our festivals.
Students then graduate and have the choice of entering the industry though our Placement Office or continuing for further study.
Throughout the course, students may also have opportunities to enter exchange programs with leading film schools around the world, completing one semester of their course abroad. More details are available at the admissions office.

Apply for Degree Courses
Admissions are now open for our revolutionary degree, masters and MBA programs in media, with specialized courses in film, animation, journalism, advertising, photography, graphic design and media management.
For the first time in India students finishing their 10+2 or graduation have the option of a bachelor’s/graduation or master’s program that combines a broad liberal arts education with intensive training in media production, with options such as film, acting, animation, mass communication or photography.
We believe that in order to be a great filmmaker or media professional, technical skills alone are insufficient. Students should have a fundamental grounding in varying aspects of culture and society, including religion, psychology, philosophy, literature, math and economics.
Lessons in all these areas enrich the student’s life, both professionally and personally, and help the student fulfill their potential no matter what track in media their life takes them.
Our degree programs are fully government accredited and feature exciting exchange opportunities with universities around the world.
