The academic curriculum of Interior Design at GD Goenka University allows students to easily blend into a global network while acquiring a greater appreciation of local industry trends. The multidisciplinary and broad based structure aims at an all round development. Deriving from the changing paradigms of industry and commerce, its content as well as the methodology has been designed to suit the need of the emerging sectors in design education. The teaching staff shall be a mix of professional and entrepreneurial sectors making a fundamental contribution to the Indian & Global Design culture. A number of entrepreneurs, experts, designers, project professionals, craftsmen and personalities in the fields of services & culture as well as of professional associations shall contribute to the team of teachers and play an essential role in the education program.

The UG program in Interior Design ensures that the graduates of this course possess a solid foundation in design methodology as well as the technical and operational areas, providing intensive knowledge of the tools and techniques to represent interior design and its various components (such as manual drawing, technical drawing, photography, three dimensional object and space management). The emphasis is laid on ability to compose given spaces aesthetically, functionally and culturally adequate. Particular importance is given to the knowledge of functional distribution of activities, of design and control of micro-environmental factors (light, colour, sound), to the choice and criteria for material selection and techniques for the interventions on interiors and installation, to the economic aspects of these activities, and also to historical, cultural, sociological, sensorial and communication aspects in order to facilitate the human-spatial interaction. The PG program builds further on the knowledge required for the management and direction of the many skills that come into play in the development and realization of an interior design project. The programme allows them to combine the conventional components of design with the innovative aspects such as – expertise in research and application; technical and production skills; economic and strategic skills; communication and representational skills. Ultimately, the course aims to develop the students' capacity to “embark on a process of self actualization by helping them to develop their own independent path and design language.

Career Opportunities

The institute places very high importance on career plans of graduating students and has a fully functional training and placement division. This division is in constant networking with the industry, to open new avenues for the students in the professional & business structures of the industry and their supply chains.

Interior Designer picks up where the architects leave off. They are the ones who design all that empty space that architects create. They help plan space allocation, traffic flow, building services, furniture, fixtures, furnishings, finishes, comfort, safety and aesthetics of interior spaces. Careers in interiors have really exploded as their services are needed everywhere whether it's the new corporate headquarters of a company or a new residential home, or areas such as restaurants, hospitals, hotels, airports, malls, retail spaces, exhibitions, fairs or reality show sets. The institute works towards providing excellent career opportunities for students through campus placement.
