Gemmology course is a comprehensive study, comprising of the formation of gemstones in the crust of the earth, their crystal system, physical, optical and chemical properties, identification of all types of gemstones, synthesis of various gemstones and their identification from natural counterparts. The study also covers various commercial and qualitative aspects such as the occurrences, importance of origin, fashioning, treatments and identification, marketing etc. The programme includes extensive practical training for identifying gemstones using 10x lens and highly sophisticated and advanced gemological equipments. Field trip, factory visits, assignments, project work, etc. form part of the course. GII also offers customized corporate training programmes in the field of Gemmology & Diamonds to meet your business requirement.

Gemmological Institute of India is a non-profit Public Charitable Trust established in the year 1971 by the Gem & Jewellery Exporters’ Association. GII an independent and impartial institution is the pioneer in the field of Gemmology in the Country.
Gemmological Institute of India in its journey since 1971 have kindled the light of knowledge in the field of Gemmology, Diamond Grading and Jewellery Designing amongst the gem trade and industry in India and also amongst the general public.
GII is the only gem & diamond testing laboratory in Mumbai which is established by the Industry, for the promotion, propagation and development of the science of gemstones and research studies in India.
The Gemmological Institute of India is a project of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India and co-sponsored by Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) ,Diamond Exporters’ Association Limited (DEAL) and Gem & Jewellery Exporters’ Association (GJEA).
GII is the only Gem Testing Laboratory in the country which has the coveted recognition as a SIRO (Scientific Industrial Research Organization) Laboratory by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India in the field of Gemmology.
GII is recognized by CIBJO, the apex organization of the Gem & Jewellery Industry in the world.
