Overview, Content & Syllabus

Introduction :

Whatever the business is, be it services or product manufacturing, one can clearly identify a chain of activities and organizations linking smallest supplier to ultimate customer. The basis of global competition has changed. The globalization has transformed the business environment worldwide in general and in India in particular, resulting in highly unstable, unpredictable demand intensities and shrinkage of life cycles. No longer are companies competing against other companies, but rather supply chains are competing against supply chains. The success of a business is now  invariably measured neither by the sophistication of its products nor by the size of its market share. It is instead usually seen in the light of the ability to harness its supply chain, sometimes forcefully and deliberately, to deliver responsively to meet customers and their requirements as and when they demand it or change it.

Firms alike that desire to participate in global supply chains must understand and embrace without further hesitation, the new mantra of SCM on which the new competition is premised. It is proven now that applications of SCM have contributed to increasing customer satisfaction, improved productivity, reduction of cost and improvement in profit, better work processes, and greater competitiveness for industries which have implemented it.

Organizations today have to necessarily optimize effectiveness and efficiency by collaborating across their Supply Chains. Managing materials across the Supply Chain is not only an opportunity but is also a necessity for organizations to improve competitiveness and of course, performance. The scale of opportunity is immense for almost every business including those who are doing very well.

Objectives & Take Away :

In the past, supply chain practice has been primarily tactical, but this program presents a new and innovative approach to supply chain design, implementation & performance management which will enable program participants to better understand:

  • The role of supply chain design in business strategy and why, if not linked, supply chain design can undo a company's entire business strategy
  • Forces that influence supply chain structure—how supply chain structures change; how supply chain structures and industry structures overlap; and how these structures are affected by the speed of change in a given industry
  • Integrating supply chain design with product and process development, connecting with supply management & logistics
  • Supply chains in the age of e-business
  • Guidelines for making strategic sourcing and make-buy decisions
  • better design a company's supply-chain strategy and implement the change in demand and supply chain partners
  • enhance the understanding on the key issues in Customer focused Supply Chains and prepare for change to achieve excellence through SCM
  • promote an active exchange of experiences to evaluate “as is” methods and processes, prepare “to be” systems and processes to make firm competitive in market place
  • adopt tools and techniques for better performance e.g. Reduction of excess inventories, improve delivery lead time, reduce sourcing lead time, optimum utilization of human resources engaged in purchase, materials and supply management, invest in right materials for better customer service level, better investment turnover, and of course, greater profits etc..
  • enhance know-how and skills of human resource managing demand & supply chain and illustrate how to cope with uncertainty in Supply Chains there by improving their productivity, transition from tactical to strategic functions
