FX School's Digital Filmmaking course helps you master filmmaking skills in a professional environment using the latest DSLR filmmaking technology. Our project-oriented curriculum allows you to specialize in your specific area of interest and work on industry projects as part of your training. Our students attain a high degree of placement in the industry. The Digital Filmmaking course comprises 3 months of Foundation, 3 months of Specialization and 2 Pro course modules of 3 months each.

Foundation (3 months)

The 3-month Foundation in Digital Media is designed to help you discover where your true talents lie and make an informed decision about what you should seriously pursue further. For more about the course content given below.

CG Animation: Learn the Maya interface, basic principles of animation, shading and lighting. Plus, learn how to create CG assets and work on animation exercises.

Introduction to Visual Effects: Learn key concepts, tools and techniques related to VFX, including an introduction to After Effects.

Basic Digital Photography: Learn the fundamentals of using digital SLRS, the rules of composition and essential Photoshop skills for processing and editing images.

Digital Filmmaking: Enter the world of cinema through an exploration of visual language. Learn the fundamentals of filmmaking with an emphasis on Aesthetics, Film History and Film Genre study.

Digital Art Fundamentals: Learn to create and work with primitive shapes; learn about lighting and shading, one and two-point perspectives and color theory.

Specialization (3 months)

The Specialization module in Digital Filmmaking and Visual Effects, aims at helping you acquire key skills required to make live action films with basic visual effects. You will work on multiple VFX projects (title sequences, colour correction, rotoscoping etc.) and Filmmaking projects (short film, music video and short documentary).

Pro Courses

After completing the Foundation and Specialization modules, students need to complete a minimum of 2 out of the Pro modules listed below.

Writing-Direction1 (3 months)

This course trains you to write film reviews and script analyses, develop your very own short film scripts and direct them. You will learn Protagonist Treatment and Character Development, build ideas into Synopses, create Beat Sheets and also learn about Production Value and Director’s Pre-production. You will direct scenes and a short film by the end of the module.

Writing-Direction 2 (3 months)

This course gives you in-depth training in advanced aspects of film writing and direction. You will study the Three ACT Structure, learn about Scene Building, Pacing and how to direct actors. At the end of the module, you will direct short films based on your own screenplays.

Production-Post production 1 (3 months)

This course gives you comprehensive training in cinematography and editing. You will learn basic camera operations, work on different lighting moods and “looks,” learn sound recording, narrative cinematography and advanced online and offline editing techniques.By the end of the module, you will have learnt all the necessary technical skills required to become a filmmaking professional.

Production-Post production 2 (3 months)

This course gives you exhaustive training in film production and post-production with the objective of helping you build an impressive showreel. You will work on two main projects from the following: Documentary Filmmaking, Music Video Production, Trailer Designing and Packaging and Ad Filmmaking. At the end of the module, you will have two well-finished and packaged films to add to your portfolio.
