Overview, Content & Syllabus

ISEET (Indian Science-Engineering eligibility Test) is the Single National level entrance test to be conducted from the year 2013 for all students who seek admissions in central engineering institutions i.e. IITs, NITs, IIITs and IISERs.

As of now ISEET 2013 will replace IIT-JEE & AIEEE but it is proposed that ISEET will gradually replace all State level exams like RPET, MH-CET, Karnataka CET, etc.

It will have two parts, Main and Advance, each of three hours duration. Both tests will be given on the same day, between 10 am and 5 pm.

ISEET Main will be an objective type exam, and will test comprehension, critical thinking and logical reasoning. ISEET Advance will test problem-solving ability in basic science subjects. The two tests together will indicate a candidate’s scholastic level and aptitude for science and engineering.

Institutes to accept ISEET

a. 15 Indian Institutes of Technology ( IIT’s) and IT-BHU, Varanasi & ISMU, Dhanbad.

b. 30 National Institutes of Technology (NIT’s)

c. 5 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs)

d. 6 Indian Institutes of Science Education & Research (IISERs)

e. 1 Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology (IIST)

f. 1 Indian Institute of Science (IISc) – (only BS Course/Programme)

g. 3 Indian Statistical Institutes (ISIs)

h. Several other Govt./Centrally funded institutions.

FAQ

Q. What will be the language of test papers in ISEET?

Ans.

a. ISEET for National Level Institutions shall be conducted in English & Hindi languages.

b. Where State intends to use the same examination for admission to State Engineering institutions, the examination could be conducted in the regional language of the State too.

Q. How many seats will be available through ISEET?

Ans.

a. 15 IITs + IT-Bhu + ISMU = 10,000+ seats

b. 30 NITs = 20,000+ seats

c. 5 IIITs = 2,000+ seats

d. 6 IISERs + IISc = 2500+seats

e. IIST +ISI = 500+seats

f. Other deemed Universities (National Level) = 5000+ seats

g. State Level Colleges = 5 Lac+ seats

Q. What will be that admission process from 2013 for IITs?

Ans. Board Percentage of Class XII will be given a minimum of 40% weightage while preparing final merit list. Difference in various State Boards and Central Board results will be normalized using scientific statistical normalization on the basis of percentiles formula prepared in consultation with the Indian Statistical Institute which compares the average performance of students appearing in the respective board examination. ISEET will replace IITJEE and will come into place from academic session 2012-13 and a score card will be given to the student appearing in the exam.

ISEET MAIN and ADVANCE will be compulsory with MAIN having 30% to 60% weightage and ADVANCE exam having 0% to 30% weightage. The admission committee for IITs will prepare merit list for the admissions. All other institutes who took admissions based on JEE will also follow the same pattern.

Q. What will be that admission process from 2013 for institutes currently using AIEEE rank?

Ans. Board Percentage of class XII will be given a minimum 40% weightage while preparing final merit list. Different State Boards and Central Board results normalized on the basis of percentile formula suggested by Statistical Institute of India. ISEET will replace AIEEE and will come into place from academic session 2012-13 and a score card will be given to the student appearing in the exam. ISEET MAIN and ADVANCE will be compulsory with MAIN having 30% to 60% weightage and ADVANCE exam having 0% to 30% weightage. Merit list for the admissions will be prepared by the common admission committee for NITs. All other institutes who took admissions based on AIEEE will also follow the same pattern.

Q. What is the selection process for admissions to other institutes accepting ISEET 2013 scores?

Ans. The final cut-off list for admissions with ISEET score will be generated in three steps and each state government or institute will be able to decide the specific weightage it gives to Board, MAIN and

ADVANCE exam scores following the guidelines mentioned below:

• Class XII Board Score: weightage not less than 40% and can go up to 100% of the total score.

• ISEET MAIN – weightage not less than 30% and can go up to 60% of the total score

• ISEET ADVANCE – weightage not more than 30% of the total score such that combined score of ISEET MAIN & ADVANCE does not exceed weightage 60% of the total score.

• It would be up to each institution/ groups of institutions/ State agencies to carry out the task of counseling and finally the admission in a coordinated manner.
