Digital Photography and Post Production

This course will provide an introduction to the fundamentals of photography. A systematic and thorough approach is emphasised in the area of image sensors and digital workflow. Students develop essential skills for obtaining consistent results and will lay a foundation in photography as a visual language .

1. Mode of photography:

2. Equipment and Gears:

Cameras, Lenses, Filters, Light meters, Flash, Speedlight, Reflectors, Tripods, Soft boxes, Bean Bags, Lens Hoods, Snoot and Grids, Background Curtains, Trolleys, Photoshop Softwares, Auto Triggers for flash Etc.

3. Understanding cameras & Formats:

Compact Cameras, SLR Cameras, Large Format Cameras, 110 Format (Hot Shot) Sleek, 35 mm Format Regular, 120 mm Format. Medium Format (B2 size), Plate Cameras Large Format.

Camera Features:

: View Finder, Range Finder, Focus Area Matrix, Shutter Range, Image Information, Lense mounts, Hot Shoe mounts and slaves, Sync Speed, Image RAW, Remote trigger.

Understanding the properties of light, Luminous and non-luminous objects, Creative manipulation of natural light, Side light, front light and back light.

Hubert D’souza
(Course Director)

Hubert D’souza has done his Bachelor of Fine Art with specialization in Illustration and Photography from J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai. He also did his specialization in Applied Arts & Graphics and Art Teachers Training from the same institute. He has participated in various workshops conducted by eminent photographers in the industry like Mitter Bedi, Vishal Bhende and Girish Mistry. Hubert D’souza has a Passion for photography and uses his talents for a new dimension in creativity and artistic expression. He has a freelance studio ‘FIELD ART’ for graphic designing, photography and video post production. Some of the projects handled by Hubert D’souza in photography and design are: Bradma Pvt. Ltd., Asian Brown Boveries, Veto Electricals, Racold water heaters, Light of life Magazine, KES School & Junior College, Goan Cultural Association and St. Francis Engineering College (SFIT).

Prashant Desai

Prof. Prashant Desai graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTI), Pune, in cinema with specialization in cinematography in 1982. Since then he has worked in the industry in various capacities cinematographer, screenplay writer, producer and director. He has worked on various types of productions including Ad Films, Documentaries/Educational Films, Feature Films as well as Television shows/serials on national and international levels. His adventurous spirit and love for nature led him to work on wild life films as well.

He has taught at NID Ahmedabad and FTII Pune. At MIT Institute of Design, he held the position of HOD for two years. He has also taught at Xavier Institute of Communication, Mumbai where he was the joint course co-ordinator for a brief period of time. He has conducted workshops and lectured at Symbiosis Institute of Design, Pune, Indubhai Parekh School of Architecture, Rajkot, SIES College, Mumbai and Wigan & Leigh, Mumbai..

Jaggi Gupta

Jaggi Gupta is a photojournalist and commercial photographer of Mumbai. Formerly he worked at NewsTrek Magazine and MID-DAY as a staff photographer. He has served at ‘Tyger Production’ an in-house production of ‘Percept Advertising’ as Senior Production Executive. He has handled various still photography projects and assignments for a number of companies, agencies, films, TV serials and fashion publications. He was the still photographer for the national award winning movie ‘PERCY’. He has also conducted workshops and taught photography at Xavier Institute of Communication, Ruparal College, Bhavans College, SIES College and many other colleges and institutes. He owns a studio known as JAGGI’S STUDIO for professional photography.
