What is cinematography :

A cinematographer is responsible for composing each frame in a scene to be shot and deciding the lighting and camera angles according to the requirements of the director. During Cinematography course, you will learn to lead the camera/lighting team and will be involved in the planning and execution of a shoot from the pre-production stage.
Lighting is used to change the mood of a scene or to indicate practical aspects such as day or night. Our Cinematography course will also teach you how lighting technician arranges all the lighting effects designed by the cinematographer according to the instructions of the chief assistant cameraman.
Our Cinematography course blends traditional filmmaking techniques with the latest digital video and film cinematography. We use the SONY PD-170/ Panasonic HD, for day to day exercise and Sony DSR-450 cameras for camera operation

Arri 435 or Arri-3 or ARR-BL-3 will be demonstrated to understand how the film camera works during 2-3 days film camera workshop. Our Cinematography course also includes screenings, lectures, and demonstrations to help you understand creative possibilities as you develop an eye for aesthetics.

During the Cinematography course Students will experiment with the creative use of film lighting techniques and to control image quality. Students will shoot in studio, on location in afternoons and evenings and WILL gain practical experience in various lighting situations such as day-for-night, night-for-night, available and mixed light, magic-hour, fire and candle light, and close-up table tops.

Each morning students will share their discoveries, successes, and failures as the class reviews and critiques the previous day's shooting.

WORKSHOP: There will be two 3-days workshops by industry

1.last Date to apply : We don't have a fix date. Session starts very month.

2. No of seats:We have 10 seats after 10+2. & 10 seats after graduation for any course to be filled on interview basis for Indian students.

3. Eligibility criteria : Diploma After 10+2 vs P.G diploma After Grad. There is no minimum percentage required to apply . We offer the same course after 10+2 and graduation. The only difference will be in your diploma which you will be getting. If you are 10+2 and join photography & videography course your diploma will say “diploma in photography & vieography” and if you are graduate it would be called “P.G. diploma in photography & vieography etc” The course content and class room remains same. Students who are appearing for their 12th/ final year exam of graduation can also apply.

How to apply : If you are applying, then you need to send us the bank draft of Rs 20,000/- to be made from any bank in the favor of “center for research in art of film and television” payable at Delhi along with 2- passport size photo with admission form. If you are coming personally to CRAFT you can also pay cash.

6. Course Duration:this six month program.

7. CRAFT’s Legal Status and Its Affiliation: CRAFT is registered as nonprofit making public charitable trust with sub-Registrar in Delhi Govt. and offer autonomous Diploma courses. CRAFT was established on 6th March 2006 and it is our 6th year of operation.

8. Aicte Approval-vs-Autonomus ?
Degree / Diploma / Certificate / AICTE approved, affiliated etc. In this country no university offers the “bachelor or Master degree in cinematography/direction/acting etc or any other specialization media courses like direction, event mgmt, editing etc”.
Nor do the AICTE give any accreditation for any such specialized media courses. Infact AICTE do not even understand the media courses and hence no P.G college / institute offer the degree program. All private / non government institutions (like CRAFT) offer one year diploma programs.
If you honestly ask, in the media industry nobody is concerned about your degree/ diploma/certificate. What they are looking at is your capability as event management/ director/cinematographer/ editor, your overall smart personality, good communication skills and understanding of your profession you have chosen.

9. Bank Loan Provision:We do not have any tie up with the any bank but if you can get the loan, we can issue any letter required from our end.

Workshop: There will be two 3-days workshops by industry practitioner in our Cinematography course. During the workshops, screening of their work will take place to analyze their unique style. Various lighting situations will be taken up by the instructor to demonstrate different ways to light them up. Possible outdoor and indoor locations in Delhi will be explored for a wider perspective on problems associated with location shooting. Students will be given typical situations for light up and will be guided by workshop instructor. These workshops will give the students confidence and technical fineness required to shoot any professional cinematography assignment in the film and television industry

Variety of lighting styles, like source lighting, mood lighting, stylization, glamour will be demonstrated through practical situations in the studio.

After completing the Cinematography course, the students can easily seek employment with television and production companies. Ambitious students begin their career as assistant cameramen, graduating to independent cinematographers in a few years where they can command anywhere between Rs. 5,000 onward per day, depending upon their experience and quality of work.

Fiction Style: How to use natural and available light more effectively; use of tungsten, HMI, and fluorescent lighting systems, along with grip equipment to shape, bounce, and shade light by using simple tools and techniques. Exercises include lighting portraits and close-ups, product stills, night exteriors, interiors of a motel room, car interiors, day for night, and exterior night street scenes. The Cinematography course also includes tests and exercises with 35mm digital cameras and video cameras.

Advertising Style: In this style, we screen and study a wide range of television commercials, look at trends, analyze visual style, and discuss concepts, camera-vision, technology, editing-styles, and the use of special effects. We explore the use of lighting, the feature film look, and the impact MTV has had on television visualization. You will be required to scout and evaluate locations, and then set up and shoot commercials. You will solve real problems such as casting, blocking, lighting, camera placement and movement, and the overall look of each commercial. You will also examine the relationship between the director, the DP, and the client. In addition, we help explore career opportunities and the business of television commercial production.

Documentary Style: The main focus is on creative use of DV Cam and film cameras in documentary filmmaking. Apart from exploring the use of the camera in documentary production, it also takes account of the responsibilities of the documentary filmmaker as a director/camera operator. Other aspects that are covered in Cinematography course include cover-shot design and camera set-up, blocking and camera moves, composition, point-of-view, and lens selection.

Cinematography course discussions on field maintenance, batteries and chargers, alternate sources of power, lenses, and lighting packages. It also covers a wide range of documentary programming including nature, science and social documentaries, docu-drama and corporate documentaries and industrials, along with formal studio situations and challenging field, mountain, and wilderness work. The activities range from problem- solving and story-telling to creative decision-making from edit point of view. You will screen and analyze selected documentaries for camera style and story-telling. There will be fieldwork every afternoon to give you practical experience in handling the camera in a variety of situations. Scenes will be edited for review and critique at various points in Cinematography course.

Hardware and Various Cameras: 35 mm motion picture laboratory and projection .This focuses on controlling the motion picture image and the creative possibilities and technical limitations of various films. You will learn how to: Conduct an emulsion test, use incident light meters, color temperature, and spot meters are all included in the Cinematography course.
