Overview, Content & Syllabus

Our lives in the modern world are so linked with and dependent on radio, television and the Internet for information, communication & entertainment that it is hard to imagine an existence without them. These industries constantly require a fresh inflow of trained professionals - a need we envisaged long ago making us the leaders in the field.

Radio and television broadcasting and the Internet being instantaneous in nature and pervasive in reach, are very powerful means of entertainment, information and education. The process of conveying the contents of radio and television presentations commonly known as broadcasting and worldwide web is akin to sowing seeds and we must keep in mind the adage "as we sow, so shall we reap". There are long term consequences of broadcasting and, therefore, time must be devoted to its study.

The invention of television in the 20th century brought about a revolution of sorts. It may be mentioned that a picture is equal to a thousand words. Moving pictures have a magical effect on the human mind and seeing is indeed believing. Television has undoubtedly brought about a profound change in the way we know and perceive our world. Since the first British telecast in 1936, television has grown as a major communication industry worldwide crossing political and cultural boundaries.

Radio preceded television. It's new resurgence through the FM channels has put it in the forefront of the mass media industry. Radio is indeed a low cost but effective medium of mass communication with a widespread penetration. It also plays a role of a repository of our cultural heritage. Due to its inherent and continuous need for trained personnel it is aptly called the "sunshine industry" of the media world.

This three year dual certification education and training programme leads to a world recognized graduate university degree and ASMS graduate level diploma in Electronic Media.

About Course Provider

AAFT (Asian Academy of Film & Television)

We have always believed that a film school should take a holistic and realistic approach in its teaching. By holistic we mean that film school training should not be limited to only classrooms and lectures on theories and techniques. Therefore, at AAFT we have adopted a comprehensive training method with equal importance on the practical training of film making and acting.

Believing that training and skill building are quite essential in the field of visual media, Asian Academy of Film & TV, has been imparting education and training in the art & craft of film making in television presentation since 1993.

The academy was planned as an alternative to formal film schools and has since come a long way making a unique place for itself amongst the best global centers of education of its kind. Growing to be certified as the first ISO 9001:2000 film school in this part of the world in less than a decade since its inception, the Academy was also approved as an international level training center by the 125 year old City & Guilds of the United Kingdom in the year 2002.

Students with varied background, experience and culture are selected for admission to the academy for their talent and enthusiasm. Although students spend most of their time on the projects, the education and training imparted at AAFT is more than just a craft model.

Education and training for various courses are provided by expert media practitioners supplemented by visiting guest lecturers who are leading exponents of their specialized skills in the practical craft of film & television production.

The Academy has also done pioneering work of generating training a world class material in the form of books and video recordings on the various techniques of film and television production both for the benefit of its students and the practicing film and television professionals. The Documentation Center of the academy has produced a number of books on the art & screen presentation.

The academy is affiliated to the International Film & Television Research Center which aims at raising professional standards of films and television presentations. Film and Television personalities from all over the world are often the guest of the Research Center. AAFT is also affiliated to International Film & Television club.

Festivals of Israel, Japanese, Croatian, Norwegian and Russian films have already been organized by the Club in the past. Students of the academy greatly benefit from the activities of both these organizations.
