Cha Cha - Latin Dance Class

Cha Cha is perhaps the most popular of the Latin American dances. This tantalizing Afro-Cuban dance combines the elements of personality, character, rhythm, basis and appeal from the mambo and the swing. This exciting syncopated Latin dance originated in the early 1950s, but has same foot hold as the other dances, which speaks volumes about its inherent charm and grace. The infectious one – two cha cha rhythm which demands that sitters become dancers, comes from jazz. This dance originally came from Cuba and its forerunner is the mambo which is fast and more for the specialist. The name could have been derived from the Spanish 'Cha Cha' meaning 'nursemaid' or chachar meaning to chew coca leaves or from char meaning tea or most likely from the fast and cheerful Cuban dance the 'guaracha'.
