Cinematographers are wizards of light and movement. They can take a dull, uninspiring image and with the use of the right lights, the right filters, and the right positioning, turn that image into art.
In this class, students will learn the basics of using a camera and camera motion, different types of lighting and three-point lighting, lenses, filters, and the role of a cinematographer on a set.
Starting with analyzing still images, both photography and paintings, students learn how to light a scene, whether working in the studio or outdoors. As they progress in skill, students move from DSLRs to more advanced cameras and grip equipment including tracks, trolleys and cranes.
In line with the current industry practices, the students will follow their footage from the camera into the post-production digital workflow.
