Academics build the foundation of a good career, educating oneself in the field of one’s desired professional interest is the most crucial career requirement. This, however was a rather cumbersome task for me as a young student.
It was after stringent training under the then gurus of fashion and getting an in-depth knowledge of the fashion vertical and hands-on experience that i earned the opportunity to explore diverse job profiles within fashion domain. Giving back what I learnt over the years to students of this generation is something that always gives me immense satisfaction.
I thoroughly enjoyed every single project I worked on and attribute its credit primarily to a strong academic foundation which was built in college. Over the last few decades, having delivered several lectures, seminars and workshops across various colleges in India, I see a definite need for relevance in fashion education and a need to develop talent across all aspects of fashion education.
Its time for us in India to understand and build professionals who can excel in the diverse job profiles available within the fashion industry, and give it an approach that it deserves for an industry that contributes over 4% to the country’s GDP.
There is a clear need for fashion aspirants to look beyond the urge to be a fashion designer when pursuing a career in fashion. This can happen only when the students focus on building their strengths around niche subjects and then work to gain in-depth knowledge of the technicalities of fashion to explore newer avenues of business, and find recognition.
Creativity has various facets associated with it and education has the strength to guide us on how to tap into it. Having experienced this over the past 3 decades, I desire to share my expertise with the young & dynamic entrants into the world of fashion. I have partnered with one of my mentors and a fantastic teacher, Mr. Subhash Ghai and Whistling Woods International to launch this endeavor.
Our aim with this endeavour will be to demonstrate that dreams can be realised with relevant training, in-depth knowledge, practical’s and industry exposure so that every student stepping out of our school is ready to excel and explore his/her true creative potential in the world of fashion.
