C.S stands for Company Secretaryship. Company Secretary is a professional course which is managed by The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) which is constituted under the Company Secretaries Act, 1980 to grow and control the profession of Company Secretaries in India. Company secretary are required to be appointed by those companies who's paid up capital is of Rs.50 lakhs according to the Companies Act.

To turn out to be a company secretary a candidate must pass the foundation course, executive program and professional course which were earlier known as Foundation Examination, Intermediate Examination and Final Examination which are conducted by institutes and later they have to undertake for practical training to be eligible for the membership as a Company secretary.

Company Secretary is a senior position in the private and public sector companies and organizations, usually it is known as managerial position or higher positions. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) offers this study course. You can join this foundation course after completing your 10+2 and then move on to the intermediate level of the course. Alternatively, you can complete you graduation, post-graduation or any other professional qualification to seek admission directly into the intermediate stage. This course of Company secretary is constituted under the Company Secretary Act, 1980 to upgrade and manage the profile of Company Secretary in India. A Company Secretary is required to be appointed by the companies whose paid up capital is up to Rs. 50 lakhs according to the companies act.

A Company Secretary candidate must have passed its foundation course, executive programs and other professional course which were previously called as Foundation Examinations, Intermediate Examinations and Final Examination which are conducted by profiled institutes, after completing the course the candidate needs to undergo for practical training to be eligible for the membership as a company secretary.

Basic Eligibility Criteria:-

To Apply for CS, a minimum educational requirement is 10+2 or any equivalent examination. Graduates or post graduates who have completed with their final examinations of ICWAI or ICAI also can apply for the commencement of this course. A CS passed candidate specializes in Tax laws, Economic laws, Labor laws and Company laws.

  1. Foundation Course in Company Secretary
  
  The CS course at the Foundation level (ICSI: Foundation Examination) consists of only theoretical examinations. There are 8 subjects arranged into 5 papers of 100 marks each.
  To pass a student has to obtain a minimum of 40% in each paper and an aggregate of 50% in all the papers together, failing which the student has to reappear in all the papers again.
  
  2. Final Course for Company Secretary
  
  The CS course at the Final level (ICSI: Final Examination) consists of only theoretical examinations. There are 15 subjects arranged into 3 groups of 3 papers each of 100 marks.
  To pass a student has to obtain a minimum of 40% in each paper and an aggregate of 50% in all the papers of a group together, failing which the student has to reappear in all the papers of the group again.
  There are certain exemptions in cases where the student has failed the examination but has obtained high marks in one or more papers.
