SVKM's NMiMS - Anil Surendra Modi School of Commerce
In the ongoing saga of evolutionary development that is NMIMS, it added another chapter in 2007, by establishing the Anil Surendra Modi School of Commerce, an attempt to emulate its path breaking endeavours in other fields of education to undergraduate business education.
The basic structure and curricular pattern and pedagogy of undergraduate education had hardly undergone any significant change in the last one or two decades – and the Anil Surendra Modi School of Commerce brought with it a breath of fresh air into the stale world of rote learning and outdated subject matter.
The pedagogic innovations included upgrading the learning process through case studies and presentations and enhancing the overall student experience through interactive class discussions, debates, project based assignments and a system of continuous evaluation.
Greater rigour was incorporated into the course content by adopting a trimester-based approach to course delivery and scheduling, a CGPA (cumulative grade point average) based relative method of grading to inculcate among the students a spirit of friendly yet intensely fair competition in their search of excellence; an ideal blend of strong conceptual foundations and practical relevance through field work based projects, guest lectures from industry practitioners.
The BBA curriculum was updated entirely very recently in keeping with the increasing demand from industry for specialized skills. It allows the students to specialize in their final year in areas of finance or marketing and benchmarks the content against global standards. Furthermore, the 3rd year specialization courses allow for customized career-focused content.
One of the unique features of the Anil Surendra Modi School of Commerce selection procedure is a pan-India written examination that tests all candidates on their verbal and quantitative skills irrespective of their past academic background. This process of selection allows the School to admit students who have excelled in their chosen fields of study irrespective of their geographic location. And the inevitable consequence is a diverse batch that represents a microcosm of India united in their academic credentials bringing to life the very ideal of “Unity in Diversity” within the premises of Anil Surendra Modi School of Commerce itself.
