Overview, Content & Syllabus

Purpose
Following this course, students acquire the sector-specific skills that will allow them to choose the most appropriate materials and techniques when using company equipment and, if working in an industrial context, supervise the entire production line.

Aims
Our aim is to train a fundamental figure in clothing manufacturing, who manages the cutting and successive assembly of clothing pieces. Garment makers are professionals who are familiar with the raw materials and know how to check their quality; they are able to use machinery for the realisation of fabrics and knitwear articles and know how to check its correct functioning. Depending on the level of ability reached, Garment makers can be called to realise prototypes and check their quality and wearability.

Participants
The job oriented courses are opened to all those, who regardless of their age and experience, wish to acquire or increase their technical skills and develop an aptitude for design in the area of garment making. In particular, the courses are aimed at:

  • workers in the fashion industry (production, design, retail)

  • people qualified in technical subjects (pattern makers) or artistic subjects (designers)

Organisation Of The Job-Oriented Courses
The lessons are of a theoretical-practical nature; each topic covered is presented with concrete examples together with practical exercises in a Garment Making Workshop. The teaching activities include the elaboration of a practical assignment, how to follow a pattern, the realisation of a design project and the production of a prototype.

Teachers
The teaching body is made up of university professors, industry professionals and experts.

Admissions Criteria
Anyone who holds a secondary school leaving qualification may be admitted to the job oriented courses. The full-time job oriented courses have a fixed number of places: those interested can enrol from the 5th June – 20th July, 20 participants will be chosen on the basis of the admission test results.

The Five Teaching Aims
Create: transfer knowledge, experiential and methodological data in order to broaden and consolidate technical-professional and artistic-creative knowledge.
Communicate: provide technical-graphic procedures for the definition of design ideas.
Design: introduce the specific themes of garment making to transform ideas into prototypes.
Realise: present the most appropriate materials and techniques to materialise the creative idea in an execution project.
Work: provide the key skills to operate in the professional world.

Final Exam
The exam consists of the presentation and discussion of the project elaborated during the course. A book with images of the intermediary phases and of the patterns produced will bear witness to the development of the project.
