India’s most celebrated cookbook author, not only founded the largest publishing house of Cookbooks in India but is also the force behind a successful chain of Cooking Academies. And all this in just a few years!

Nita was always passionate about cooking and thus experimented often at home, trying out new recipes for family and friends. Seeing the appreciation she received for her cooking, she decided to put her talent to use. She started taking Ice cream classes at home. The response to her classes was tremendous! Eager students kept pouring in to learn the unusual ice creams which Nita taught like the Mocha ice cream, Mint, Choco-chip, etc which were a new fad in those days. Later she introduced other courses like Multicuisne, Baking, Chinese. Encouraged by her students’ demand for new recipes, Nita Mehta decided to write a Cookbook. Nita worked hard on the book, penning recipes late into the night, after completing her household chores. After a full year of grueling hard work, Nita’s book was complete.

But she was in for a rude shock. There were no publishers willing to publish her cookbook! The market, in those days was dominated by the foreign books with their glossy pictures and printing. Nita almost approached all publishers in town to get her books published, but failed! Not the one to be deterred, Nita decided to publish the book herself. With no experience and lack of finance, with just as faith as her friend, Nita set up her publishing house SNAB PUBLISHERS to publish her first Cookbook. Her first Cookbook was ‘Vegetarian Wonders’ which was an average success. But real success came calling for her in the form of her second book ‘Paneer all the way’. After that she has produced many best sellers and has not looked back. Today, her Publishing House has published over 400 cookbooks which have sold over 5 million books, making her one of the best selling authors of all times. Many of Nita ‘s Cookbooks have also won International Awards. Her Cookbooks are not only sold in India but also in USA, UK, Canada, South Africa, Singapore and the Middle East. Some of Nita’s Cookbooks have been translated into the Arabic language and also many regional languages of India.

Nita Mehta is a home science graduate from Lady Irwin College, Delhi University and a Gold Medalist in M.Sc. (Food & Nutrition). She has authored more than 300 books on various topics including more than 350 best selling cookery books. Her book "Flavours of INDIAN COOKING" won the Best Asian Cookbook Award at the Versailles (Paris) World Cookbook Fair. Three of her other books have also won international awards

In a span of a few years, over 5 million Nita Mehta cookbooks have been sold. The secret of her success is her thorough & meticulous approach towards her books.

Nita Mehta has done cooking programmes for various TV channels and has conducted cooking classes in USA, UK, Canada and several other countries.

She also has several cooking institutes under the name of "Nita Mehta Cooking Classes" in New Delhi (India), where she has trained several thousand aspiring individuals into expert cooks. In addition, she creates recipes for food-related companies around the world.

Nita Mehta’s constant interaction with women also made her realize the need for value based books for Children. This thought gave birth to NITA MEHTA PUBLICATIONS, a publishing house producing exquisite Children Books. In this endeavour, she was supported by her son Anurag, who is also the CEO of her Publishing companies.

The future plans for Nita Mehta Group include the launching of a Monthly Magazine and a chain of Restaurants.
