Initial
Students will learn notation – tone & sound production and rhythmic training. This will include exposure to the music of Leadbelly, The Dubliners, Jack Johnson and others.
Grade 1
Learn Right & Left hand techniques & Key Time Signatures. Includes the music of The Ramones, Johnny Cash, Robert Johnson.
Grade 2
Learn Major Scales, Chords & Arpeggios. Includes the music of Bill Halley and His Comets, Joan Jett, The Sex Pistols.
Grade 3
Cycle of 4ths & Fifths – 3 & 4 part chords – intervallics and includes the music of The Cream, The Byrds, Green Day.
Grade 4
Guitar Pedals, Modes & Harmonic Structures. Includes the music of Alice In Chains, Green Day, David Bowie.
Grade 5
Musical Notation, Sight-Reading & Improvisation. Includes the music of Gary Moore, Pink Floyd, R.E.M.
Grade 6
Extended Techniques, Patterns for Improvisation. Includes the music of Black Sabbath, Radiohead, Fleetwood Mac.
Grade 7
Advanced Ear Training, Musical Analysis & Transcription. Includes the music of Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, John Mayall and the Blues Breakers, Rush.
Grade 8
Advanced Performance & Recording Techniques – Composing and Notating Solos and Fills. Includes the music of Rush, Van Halen, Iron Maiden.
Eligibilty
Students need no previous experience or qualifications to register for these foundation courses.
TSM reserves the right to place students into the correct grade basis the audition, the student's skill level and any previous training and certification that they might have.
The sessions are geared towards absolute beginners and are a stepping stone to the professional guitar courses.
The students should be fluent in English as that would be the medium of instruction.
This course will teach techniques that enable guitar students to perform music from a rich and diverse repertoire, ranging across blues, country, gospel, rock & roll, heavy metal, classic rock, jazz, drum n’ bass and more.
Students will study Ensemble Performance, Instrumental Technique, Tone and Sound Production, Sight-Reading, Notation, Music Theory, Improvisation and many other important ancillary musical skills.
