The objective of the Post Graduate Diploma in TV Journalism and Communication Course is to educate and train the creative talent to an appropriate professional standard for the screen presentation. At Asian Academy of Film & TV, we believe that a complete television professional should be capable of writing, shooting, editing, presenting and directing his own show. To this end, the academy will provide the students of this course with the necessary instructions, hands-on experience and the resources. The students will be helped to develop an aesthetic appreciation of the screen as a medium for communication and prepare then to make an effective use of it.
A well rounded television professional has to visualize his presentation with moving images and, therefore, to understand and make use of the potential of the camera for picturisation; he has to use the shot material and, therefore, learn the art and craft of editing; he has to work on his voice and speech for reading the news, interviewing people and anchoring a show; he must also learn the art of writing for the screen, directing and producing a show. In short, he has to train himself as a presenter, cameraperson, video editor, director and producer. The trainers of Asian Academy of Film & TV who are specialist practitioners from a wide variety of professional backgrounds, will help the students of this course to develop various skills through practical classes and production projects beside imparting intensive theoretical instruction. The education and training during the session has been divided into three phases - the orientations phase, working skills development phase and production projects phase. The theoretical component of the education and training in the course will be about forty percent. The remaining sixty percent of the course will be practical in nature. Development of practical skills on voice and speech, camera and lighting techniques, video editing, sound recording, screen writing, producing and directing for the screen will be some of the major thrust areas of education and training.
Men and women with a degree from an Indian or overseas university, passion for informing and educating the masses, strong will to succeed as a television professional, team spirit and talent are welcome to enrol on this course. There are indeed several routes into the television industry. Asian Academy of Film & TV, however, is one which will provide a short and sure entry into the fascinating show world. AAFT (Asian Academy of Film & Television)
We have always believed that a film school should take a holistic and realistic approach in its teaching. By holistic we mean that film school training should not be limited to only classrooms and lectures on theories and techniques. Therefore, at AAFT we have adopted a comprehensive training method with equal importance on the practical training of film making and acting.
Believing that training and skill building are quite essential in the field of visual media, Asian Academy of Film & TV, has been imparting education and training in the art & craft of film making in television presentation since 1993.
The academy was planned as an alternative to formal film schools and has since come a long way making a unique place for itself amongst the best global centers of education of its kind. Growing to be certified as the first ISO 9001:2000 film school in this part of the world in less than a decade since its inception, the Academy was also approved as an international level training center by the 125 year old City & Guilds of the United Kingdom in the year 2002.
Students with varied background, experience and culture are selected for admission to the academy for their talent and enthusiasm. Although students spend most of their time on the projects, the education and training imparted at AAFT is more than just a craft model.
Education and training for various courses are provided by expert media practitioners supplemented by visiting guest lecturers who are leading exponents of their specialized skills in the practical craft of film & television production.
The Academy has also done pioneering work of generating training a world class material in the form of books and video recordings on the various techniques of film and television production both for the benefit of its students and the practicing film and television professionals. The Documentation Center of the academy has produced a number of books on the art & screen presentation.
The academy is affiliated to the International Film & Television Research Center which aims at raising professional standards of films and television presentations. Film and Television personalities from all over the world are often the guest of the Research Center. AAFT is also affiliated to International Film & Television club.
Festivals of Israel, Japanese, Croatian, Norwegian and Russian films have already been organized by the Club in the past. Students of the academy greatly benefit from the activities of both these organizations.
