Overview, Content & Syllabus

A bank clerk is a financial service professional who serves as the primary point of contact for most bank customers, administering basic banking transactions, documentation and administrative functions. Candidates will be selected after giving impressive performance in the common competitive written exam, divided into two parts, i.e. Objective test & Descriptive test followed by personal interview and group discussion. The final selection of candidates will be by total weight age of marks obtained in both tests.

Educational Qualification for SBI Bank Clerk

  • The candidate must have achieved 60% in 10+2 (For General)

  • Or Graduate with min 40% marks (35% for SC/ST/PWD)

  • The candidate must have achieved 55% in 10+2 (For SC/ST)

  • Or A Diploma course passed after 10th standard from a recognized institute, with a minimum of two years study. It should be a full time course (not through correspondence) with a minimum of 60% marks.

Phases of Examination
Phase 1 Written test: Written test, and an interview. The written test normally comprises an objective type test.
Phase 2 Common Interviews: Candidates who clear the written test are called for interview. IBPS now have the complete control over recruiting, placing professionals in all public sector banks in India. Since they have announced that the interview will be conducted by them self and not by the participating banks. And prepare a final merit list will be used to recruit the candidates directly to the banking position.
Personal Interview is conducted to check the behaviour, conversation skill, and knowledge about banking and financial topics. Technical questions may come from your previous job (if you are already working), projects that you have done, academic subjects and about the bank also. So, prepare well on one subject from your academic curriculum, do a good research on the bank and rehearsal mock interviews.

Scheme of Examination
The written test consists of Objective Paper.
Objective type: Maximum Marks: 200 The test areas in the objective type test of Bank Clerk Exam include tests from amongst Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, English language, General Awareness and Computer & Marketing Knowledge. In Objective Paper the candidate have to be answered 250 Questions in 150 Minutes.

The above tests except the Test of English Language and Descriptive Paper on English Composition is printed bilingually, i.e. English and Hindi.

Cut-off and Negative Marking: The candidates shall be required to qualify in each objective test as per the cut-off marks determined by bank. There will be penalty for wrong answers marked in the objective tests which will result in negative marks for every wrong answer i.e., one fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted.

Syllabus
The syllabus for the SBI Clerk Entrance Exam is based completely on the syllabus of class 10+2. It will be from different boards like State, ISE and CBSE. The candidates must be acquainted with the syllabus of class 10+1 and 10+2. Final Selection will be done on the basis of performance in the written test and interview.
English: The test of English includes comprehension and grammar usage mainly.
Logical Reasoning: Logical reasoning includes a test of calculative thinking and precision.
Numerical Ability: Numerical Ability shall test a candidate's mathematical grip and includes chapters that were present at 10 + 2 level.
Computer Knowledge: Computer Knowledge will put forward questions with respect to basic operations such as MS Office, etc., and
General Awareness and Marketing: This section will deal with a candidate's general knowledge which shall compromise of knowledge in marketing, computers and other general affairs.

Final Selection
The marks of Group Discussion and SBI Bank PO Interview will be put together and the candidates who secure minimum 40% marks (minimum 35% in case of SC / ST / OBC / PWD) in group discussion and interview will be considered for final selection. The candidate has to pass both in Phase I & II separately. Phase I & Phase II marks will be aggregated and arranged in descending order (category wise) for candidates who have qualified in both the phases separately and depending on the Latest PO Vacancies, selection will be made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category.
