Academic Resources

Academic Resources

The School of Science admits students for the postgraduate level courses (M.Sc., Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D., and Ph.D. courses). Progress of each Ph.D. student is monitored by a Doctoral Committee comprising of experts from both academia and Industry who are always ready to counsel the student. Apart from that, the in-house faculty at the school is student friendly, approachable and caters to the counselling of any student at any time.

Academic Support

The School of Science admits students for the postgraduate level courses (M.Sc., Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D., and Ph.D. courses). Progress of research projects by each Ph.D. and M.Sc. student is monitored by an independent Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC) and Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) respectively for Biological and Chemical Sciences. For Statistics, the M.Sc. projects by all students are monitored by a single PMC. The TAC and PMC comprise of experts from both academia and industry who are always ready to counsel the student. Apart from these, the in-house faculty at the SOS is student friendly, approachable and caters to the counseling of any student at any time.

Library Service

In order to facilitate the students, the library reading room is kept open as per time mentioned below:

Reading Room

Monday to Sunday: 8.30 am. To 11 pm.

Issue & Return counter

Monday to Saturday: 8.30 am. To 9.50 pm. Sunday 10 am To 5 pm

Faculty

Apart from its own faculty at the School of Science, expertise in the various disciplines of science is available from various reputed academic institutions as well as from Industry.

Guest Lectures

School of Science organizes a number of guest lectures by eminent scholars/ professionals from the industry / academia to ensure higher learning and excellence in frontier areas of Science and Technology.

STUDENT’S JOURNAL CLUB

As an initiative to encourage ‘exchange of ideas’ and ‘innovative thinking’, the ‘Student’s Journal Club’ (SJC) was launched in January 2011. The SJC caters to all the departments at SOS (Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences and Statistics). The SJC meetings for Biological Sciences and Chemical Sciences and for Statistics are held on alternate Wednesdays wherein students delivers a talk based on a recent research article. The SJC gives a chance to students to actively participate and develop their presentation skills. New students get the opportunity to develop newer research ideas through sharing of information with students doing their Doctoral studies. Moreover, students get the opportunity to understand subjects in fields that are essentially not their own.

INDUSTRY INTERFACE PROGRAM

An Industry Interface program has been initiated at School of Science for students in Biological Sciences and Chemical Sciences. The program aims to keep the students abreast of the latest trends in the industry/research organizations through industrial visits and guest lectures and also explore career opportunities for students in the industry/research organizations. The affairs of industry interface program are managed by a joint faculty-student cell.

NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY

School of Science celebrates ‘National Education Day’ (NED) to commemorate the birth anniversary (11th November) of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a freedom fighter and the ‘First Education Minister’ of Independent India. As part of the NED celebrations, the school organizes a multidisciplinary symposium on Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences and Statistics which was initiated in 2011. At the event, lectures by eminent speakers from academia and industry are organized. Oral and poster presentation competition is held wherein students from the School as well as from different colleges and research institutions can present their own research projects on various themes.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP

Students are encouraged to take up summer internships at various academic and research institutions as well as industry. Assistance is provided for applying to these summer internship projects. In the past, students have done their internships at NIRRH, Jaslok hospital, Bharat Serum, Ipca Labs,
