It is Entry Level Test.

Students passed out 10th or 12th standard may enroll for it.

Its an Objective type multiple choice based examination with negative marking.

Tests are conducted twice a year- in June and December.

The minimum course duration as per the regulations of the ICAI is 2 months.
Steps to clear CPT:

Step I : Pass 10th standard and take admission in 10+2

Step II : Enroll for Common Proficiency Test

Step III : Prepare for the four papers of CPT: Accounting, Mercantile Laws, General Economics, and Quantitative Attitude

Step IV : Appear and Pass the CPT Examination after passing XII (10+2)
Now, Chartered Accountancy can be pursued by following steps:

Step I : Register for IPCC (after passing 10+2 & CPT)

Step II : Appear and Pass IPCC Group-1st or both Groups

Step III : Join 3 years of Articleship training under CA

Step IV : Register, Appear and Pass CA final exam

Step V : Successfully complete GMCS training
-
Step VI : Get CA Final certificate

Step VII : Become A Qualified Chartered Accountant
Subjects for CPT
- Session - I (Two Sections - Two hours - 100 Marks)

Section A: Fundamentals of Accounting ( 60 Marks)

Section B: Mercantile Laws ( 40 Marks)

A Chartered Accountant is a person who is accepted as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in India. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in India (ICAI) is a premier professional accountancy body of the country and has its headquarter at New Delhi. It is an All-India Level Course. On successful completion of this course, the candidate becomes a qualified Chartered Accountant, which is recognized not only in India but also across the world. As the C.A. is itself a professional course that goes beyond a graduation degree like B.Com/BBA, Hence it earns a high value of respect and status in the society.
A student may become a Chartered Accountant only after having passed the Final C.A. exam.
