Santosh Malik Santosh Malik is an avant-garde guitarist with roots in Indian classical music. He began playing guitar at the age of eighteen. By the age of twenty two he was getting recognition from local professional guitarists as a guitar improviser of accomplished technique with an unmistakable touch, a highly individual tone and an inventive use of slides and pull-offs. Santosh Malik was born in 1979. No one in his family was at all musical and Santosh seemed impressed by the classical music that surrounded him, with him having taken classical vocal training since an early age. There was a family tradition of creativity — woodworking, art, writing — and in his teens Santosh’s inheritance of this creativity began to show itself in guitars. He has performed stage shows with top singers as a vocalist. Doing stage shows Santosh also taught classical vocals at Nalanda Music & Arts College for three years. Feeling the need to take his guitar playing to the next level, Santosh shifted base to Mumbai to study guitars at Guitar Hall in 2006. Sometime after his first year of study at Guitar Hall and to everyone’s amazement, he suddenly became a technically accomplished guitarist. He began to develop his own touch and tone on the strings producing a sound rather different than others. He became adept at sculpting the guitars voice. Very often students who were at Guitar Hall would linger if Santosh were playing, and paid him very nice compliments which prompted him to take up studying music very seriously. By 2009 he completed all of the Modules and began teaching at Guitar Hall. Eventually his teacher and mentor Kiran Roy gave up on lessons at Guitar Hall and simply invited Santosh to jam with him. Satyendra Chauhan Mumbai based guitarist and pedagogue Satyendra Chauhan was born on 27th June ’84. He began playing guitar in his formative years but his musical appetite quickly led him to study guitars at Guitar Hall under the expert guidance of Kiran Roy. He has had the privilege of studying with other Guitar Hall teachers such as: Dhruv Rathod, Santosh Malik, Oais Halim, etc. Always keeping an open mind and humbleness about him has helped him to keep learning new things on and about the guitar. Satyendra studied MSC in Swami Vivekanand College and loved music since his schooldays but parents urged him to study well. Satyendra Likes Pink Floyd, Guns and Roses, Metallica, System of a down, Eagles, Oasis. Despite the academic and professional achievements of Satyendra , he still has a personality and is a down-to-earth and fun guy. Satyendra believes you should have internal motivation, and passion to play guitar, and most definitely, it should be fun! As with his playing, Satyendra will find new ways to show you how to get the most out of your time learning guitar! Satyendra is a blessing to the Guitar Hall team. Kenil Sanghvi Born 1987 at Mumbai, Kenil began learning guitars at the age of 12. He did well and when he was 19 he realized the need to learn music from a seasoned teacher and that made him join Guitar Hall to learn music under the expert guidance of Kiran Roy. Soon after in his quest for excellence, he completed the intermediate Guitar Hall Modules. Through this, Kenil began his journey into an unprecedented study at Guitar Hall that challenged his ability in ways he never thought possible. Learning at Guitar Hall changed and reshaped his musical life in a way that set his goals toward a greater world view: “My problem was that I needed to expand my musical endeavors. I fell in love with Guitar Hall, and the results just floored me at how great the modules and syllabus were! After that, I decided to venture into advanced modules at Guitar Hall, and that lead me to investigate styles of music which I never thought I would be learning.” Kenil fell in love with Guitar Hall, and began a study in what he calls “The hardest form of guitar music to ever grace my fingers.” Eventually after he completed all the Modules at Guitar Hall Kenil’s love of teaching music lead him to start teaching at Guitar Hall. “Teaching is bit of a selfish job: I get to do something I genuinely love, while learning more about it myself, bettering my teaching skills, and my playing ability. Simply put, I have the best job in the world and it’s an honor teaching at Guitar Hall.” Kenil now spends his time teaching at Guitar Hall and performing with his Rock band. Kenil was named top in his class at Guitar Hall for music study, composition and virtuoso guitar performance. Manish Keshri Manish Born in Madhya Pradesh began keyboards and vocals lessons at age 9. By age 14, he was named his school Competition winner, three times for vocals and keyboards. He started playing guitars from age 15. He quickly established an affinity with the instrument. By his teenage years, he was practicing 4-5 hours a day. and by the time he turned 18, he started teaching guitars and keyboards at various music classes as well as performing in various concerts in Madhya Pradesh. Feeling the need to take his playing to a different level altogether he shifted base to Mumbai and joined Guitar Hall as a student and under the able guidance of all the Guitar Hall teachers, Manish was able burst through a different plateau altogether in guitar playing and also earning him a place in the famed Guitar Hall Teachers list. Manish came to the Academy with an impressive background of teaching and performing and today Manish enjoys teaching guitars and keyboards to students of all ages and abilities, with an emphasis on both intermediate and advanced students who exhibit a strong desire. Manish’s mission as a teacher is to pass on to young players of all abilities, the gifts of deep technical insight, musicianship and strong work ethics. Manish strives to provide a clear advantage for his students in order to enhance their accomplishments in both musical performance and life. Manish’s knowledge of music theory and versatility as a guitarist and keyboard teacher makes him an asset to Guitar Hall. Jeby Jacob Jeby Jacob is one of Mumbai’s leading exponents of the guitar. Renowned for his compelling live performances, he has performed to exceptional critical acclaim at lots of venues throughout Mumbai, winning praise for his formidable technique, outstanding musicianship and original playing style. Born in Mumbai, Jeby has been playing guitars since the past 8 years and the drums since the past 4 years. He has been teaching guitars since the past 5 years. After quitting a corporate job which he has been doing since 5 years, Jeby has settled to a fulltime career as a musician/teacher, like all of the Guitar Hall teachers. Jeby is one of the finest ever guitar teachers to join the Guitar Hall chain of academies and has gained a reputation as one of Mumbai’s most respected guitar teachers, with a rare gift for inspiring young people and players of all levels. As a guitarist Jeby has received recognition for his highly innovative guitar compositions which draw on the rich traditions of the instrument and combine them with popular contemporary influences and extended techniques. He currently helps run the guitar programme at Guitar Hall Powai, where, being an accomplished drummer, he also takes improvisation, aural and drums musicianship classes. He is widely sought after as an educator and is an integral part of the Guitar Hall teaching team. Suraj Shetty Suarj Dinakar Shetty was born on 20th of June in 1988 at Bhayandar. The influence of music came from family itself where few of his uncles were musicians, poets & owner of theater/arts company. It was in the year of 1995, when he first started his music lessons in vocals & harmonium alongside elder brother on tabla in Hindustani classical music under guruji Budhaji Bhoir, in Manikpur, Vasai W. In the year 2000, from Dahisar, sir M.S.Kamath who was in his rough times would still come to teach him. Though training under him was only for short time, but he taught the important part which Suraj was neglecting: Ear training & application. Parasuraman Subramanian Parasuraman Subramanian date of birth is 20 August 1982, also known as ‘Parshu’ or ‘Satish’ among friends and relatives was born and brought up in Mumbai. Parshuraman is a multi talented person with top notch skills in guitars, keyboards, mouth organ and he is a music composer too. He did his first stage show at the age of 13 which was aired on a local music channel. This was a singing competition with Zee Music as the event organizers. Parshuram formed his first band at the age of 19 and since then done numerous stage shows with his band. He has also composed Music for a documentary as part of a documentary competition headed by Dev Benegal which was later screened at Adlabs- Andheri. Parshu has written, composed and sung anthem songs for corporate jingles as part of freelance projects. He has composed and sung election campaign songs for the recently held election at Champaran. He has written and composed songs in Hindi and has a total of around 12 tracks which has already been recorded. He has also done a diploma course in Audio production and diploma in sound engineering from Mumbai University. Being a student of Guitar Hall since the past 4 years he has not only passed the Modules but also Trinity College of London – Grade 6 exams in keyboard and Guitar. Now joining the ranks as a full time Guitar Hall teacher Parshu looks forward to impart music education on a much higher scale. Parshu is also the branch head of Guitar Hall Thane. Parsuraman continues to captivate and charm audiences all around with his musicianship and virtuosity. Toshi Zungba Hailing from Dimapur – Nagaland, Toshi has performed in numerous successful Rock bands both in Nagaland and across India. He has also done lead guitar duties for the renowned band from Nagaland ‘LOST PARK’. This proved to be a pivotal point in confirming Toshi’s status as a rising guitar virtuoso. Toshi started playing guitars at the age of fourteen and he was immediately hooked and developed an obsession for practice, learning everything and anything he could get his hands on. Guitar Techniques formed a huge part of Toshi’s growth in the early years allowing him to learn solos and concepts of guitar greats.Though mainly self taught he has studied and jammed under distinguished guitarists from Nagaland. He has forged his own guitar playing style by drawing influence from many of the guitar greats most particularly Vinnie Moore, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert and Eric Johnson but it is his individual lead guitar skill that pushes all his talents to the front. Toshi currently is a part of the newly formed instrumental Rock band which also features guitar virtuoso’s Kiran Roy and Dhruv Rathod on the Lead Guitars and Aman Gujral on the Bass. He manages a hectic teaching schedule across various Guitar Hall centers in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai and has an enviable reputation as a leading exponent of contemporary rock guitar. Toshi says, “To be a guitar student it makes no difference what your age is, At Guitar Hall I have trained students who started playing guitar in their 70s and have turned out to be very good players, I have also taught children from as young as 4 years old they too have turned out to be very talented players.” Esu Prasad Babu Esu Prasad babu,born and brought up in Port Blair,Andaman and Nicobar islands, started learning music at the age of 11. A huge passion for learning music was in place right from a tender age. He used to spend a lot of time from his childhood in God,prayers and Music under the guidance of his church Pastor Rev.J.Aaron Raj, who was his first teacher and he was the person who introduced him to Guitar playing. Apart from learning Guitar and Keyboard in his church he also took a lot of interest in song writing and composing music for church congregation/mass during his teen years. At the Outset, he did not have a standard Instrument of his own except a mini keyboard, however he learned keyboard and guitar in his church and got well versed with both the instruments by the time he turned 18.Apart from learning music he also performed regularly in his college (J.N.R.M Degree college,Port Blair) and also got involved with Local Doordarshan Programme and All India Radio, Port Blair as an instrument player. In the year 2005, he was invited to join “Star Orchestra” a local music group for part time job as a Keyboard Player, after that he worked with many Groups in Andaman for Music Assistance, also gave background music for local Telefilms and Live stage Shows like Drama, Plays. It was around this time he came to know about Guitar Hall being India’s number one school of music and he decided to fly all the way to Mumbai from Port Blair to get trained under the able guidance of Kiran Roy and Dhruv Rathod.For the next six years he continued coming to Mumbai to complete all the Guitar Hall Modules.Esu says, “Inspite of already having a vast experience in learning and playing music I felt the need for professional guidance, so I went to ‘Guitar Hall’ where I got a totally new experience of learning Music with wonderful teachers and specially Mr.Kiran Roy Sir, who has showed me a new way to reach my goals and showed me nothing is impossible in life if you have the right attitude and if you are ready to work hard,very hard.Santosh,Chetan,Aman, Dhruv they all are dynamic musicians and all of the teachers from Guitar Hall have supported me to step forward in learning & teaching Music as their own family members. There I have successfully completed my advanced level programs.” Apart from doing the advanced level courses at Guitar Hall, In the year 2009 Esu alongwith his musical partner Mr.Murugan together formed a music Group’Island Rock Band Social &Cultural Association’-(A troupe of Island Born Musician/Singers/Artists) and got registred with A&N Admn.and till this date they are running It successfully for the harmony of Local Islanders and General Public. Presently Esu is the man in charge of Guitar Hall – Port Blair and his center teaches Guitar, Keyboard, drums,tabla, congo,trumpets and vocals in Andaman &Nicobar Islands. “It is all because of the gracious support of Mr.Kiran Sir and Guitar Hall and I am in a position to work in the field of music for the cultural harmony of people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Guitar Hall can’t help but say ‘May his tribe increase’! Sachin Mehta Sachin Mehta,born in Mumbai, got a taste of drums at a young age of 5.Drumming quickly became the most compelling force in Sachin’s life. He ran home from the bus stop each day to practice for as many hours as possible before his parents returned from work. Formal instruction came in the form of lessons with Mr. Rajnikant Patil where he learnt the Trinity college London grades and while in High School, Sachin expanded his music knowledge by being actively involved in various school bands. He practiced under different drummers who inspired him and brought on a wide variety of drumming styles.Soon thereafter as soon as he stepped into college, he embarked on a learning journey under Mr. Gino Banks who is his metor and teacher till this date.Ever since Sachin got his first drumset, he has been excitedly passing on his drumming knowledge to anyone who will listen! His first “students” were his brother, his high school friends, and the son of an acquaintance of his mother. In 2004, this enthusiasm for spreading the love of drumming led him to begin a career as a teacher. Since then,Sachin has gone on to become one of Mumbai City’s most in-demand drum instructors, sometimes teaching as many as 50 or more students per week. 2009 opened a new chapter in Sachin’s life when he was appointed as the Head of the Drums Department at Guitar Hall. Sachin has performed professional concerts with many noted Bollywood artists including industry heavyweights like Asha Bhosle.Apart from being a full time drums teacher at Guitar Hall,Sachin is also the drummer for the Rock band ‘Lust Of Symphony’ which comprises of Guitar Hall teachers including Guitar Hall founder Kiran Roy.As always,Sachin has maintained his passion for music and drumming, and still strives to constantly become a better musician,performer and teacher. Hitesh Maru Hitesh is a Mumbai born musician who starting playing guitar at age eleven, and began playing professionally at age 16. He is a graduate from Guitar Hall completing all Modules.Following his graduation from Guitar Hall he had the privilege of joining the ranks of the other Guitar Hall teachers as a full time guitar trainer. He is also a singer/songwriter and has performed numerous solo concerts of his original material in various locations around India. In addition, he has served as a guitarist in a number of various situations and venues. Hitesh is an experienced teacher and has taught many students to play guitar over the years. He enjoys teaching students of all ages, children through adults (you’re never too old to start learning guitar!), absolute beginners through advanced Hitesh loves teaching both acoustic and electric guitar, and a wide range of styles. Hitesh has extensive experience working with students of all age groups. |
