The First Year

First year courses in FLAME School of Business are divided into Core and Global Elective subjects.

Core subjects are the subjects a student has to study compulsorily. They are the subjects that form a strong foundation essential for life ahead. They cover all areas of management: Finance, Operations, Marketing, Human Resources, Economics, Statistics and Accounting.

Global Elective subjects comprise courses in foreign languages, arts, humanities and social sciences. These courses are meant to enable students to broaden their world-view and examine their own cultural heritage through wider lenses.

In the first year, students have to take a minimum of 30 courses, which earn them 63 credits. Though a course typically carries 3 credits, some courses may carry 2 credits. Out of the 30 courses, students have to opt for three Global Elective subjects, one in each of the first three trimesters. The remaining 24 courses form the Core subjects of the first year.
