I’m Payal Bhattacharya, a quintessential Sagittarian, An ethnocentric Bengali, & a happy heart in general.

I was five careers into my twenties & I finally accepted that nothing fulfils me as much as creating art. In 2010, I rediscovered a childhood passion – Calligraphy. Something I have been practicing for thirteen years. I now spend my free time conducting workshops & teaching classes on the lost art of ornate penmanship.

I live in beachy, serene madh island where inspiration is often simply a glance out of the window.

As an artist, I am still discovering myself,unraveling layers & exploring unchartered ground everyday..

Mainly, I work with acrylic on canvass, with ink on paper, various types of installations & 3D media as and when something catches my fancy & looks like potential masterpiece raw material, even if it is just scrap.

I have never had any formal training in art so my art quite literally emanates from me as a continuous stream of consciousness from my mind into my fingertips & onto a canvass.

My art is the one place where I am completely uninhibited, no holds barred. And in a world where social niceties can sometimes break the backbone of freewill, when I am alone with my canvass, experimenting with different colours, textures, styles & media, it’s like I’m finally breathing free.
