After retirement, appointed as Nominee Director (Special Director), on behalf of Board of Industrial Financial Restructuring (BIFR), Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India, since 2006.

Presently, on the Board of Instrumentation Ltd (IL), (Govt of India Public Sector Undertaking), Kota and Mardia Capicillary Ltd, Mumbai. Having adequate experience in converting sick companies into profit making. Also on the Board of Dunlop India Ltd and Jessop India Ltd., Kolkata as an independent Director. Formerly, on the Board of Mafatlal Industries Ltd, Mumbai, for number of years.

He has been the Chairman, Task force on Defence Modernisation and Self Reliance (2011-12) and Chairman, Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (2005-07). He has been Secretoryto the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Ministry of Information Technology. He was also the Principal Secretory, Industrial Development and the Uttaranchal Vikas Vibhag. He was also a representative of India on the council of International Civil Aviation Organization (1992-96).
