  • Dr. Bakul Dholakia, Director AIIM and Former Director, IIM Ahmedabad

Dr. Bakul Dholakia is currently the Director of Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management and Advisor to Adani Group. Prior to joining Adani Group, he was Director of IIM, Ahmedabad. Dr. Dholakia is a Gold Medalist from Baroda University and he has a Doctorate in Economics. He has 42 years of professional experience including 33 years at IIM, Ahmedabad. During the course of his long tenure at IIM Ahmedabad, Dr. Dholakia occupied the Reserve Bank of India Chair from 1992 to 1999, served as the Dean from 1998 to 2001 and as the Director of the Institute from 2002 to 2007. He had earlier served as the Chairman of the MBA Programme and also as the Chairman of Economics Area. He has received the Best Professor Award for his teaching in the Post-Graduate Programme at IIMA. He has guided 19 Ph.D students specializing in Economics, Finance, Business Policy and Public Systems at IIMA. Dr. Dholakia is the author of 12 books, 28 monographs and more than 50 research papers published in professional journals in India and abroad.

Dr. Dholakia has been a major motivator and a guiding force behind the numerous initiatives & expansion of activities at IIMA. His vision and strategic leadership have contributed to IIMA’s enhanced international image and global recognition. He is widely recognized for his contribution to Management Education in India. His achievements in institution building have been nationally and internationally acclaimed.

In 2007, Dr. Dholakia was awarded Padma Shri by the Government of India in recognition of his distinguished services in the field of education. In 2008, Dr. Dholakia was conferred the coveted Bharat Asmita National Award by the Honorable Chief Justice of India. In 2006, he was honoured by the Association of Indian Americans in North America (AIANA) at the World Gujarati Conference in New Jersey for his Visionary Leadership and Achievements in business education. Since 2005, Dr. Dholakia has been rated as one of the most powerful personalities of Gujarat by various media groups. Global Associations of Business Schools have also honoured Dr. Dholakia for his sterling contribution in the field of management education. The Global Foundation for Management Education (GFME), jointly formed by the Associations of American and European Business Schools, has nominated Dr. Dholakia as a Member of the Board of GFME representing Asia

Dr. Dholakia was a Board Member of Reserve Bank of India Western Area Board from 1993 to 2001. In recognition of his efforts to improve the quality of management education, the Government of India appointed Dr. Dholakia as the Chairman of the National Board of Accreditation for Technical Education in India (2005-2008). He has also served as External Director on the Board of public and private sector companies. Over the last two decades, Dr. Dholakia has worked on numerous government committees, the recent ones being the Rangarajan Committee on Pricing and Taxation of Petroleum Products (2006) and the Expert Group on Pension Fund constituted by the Government of India (2009). He has also been a member of the Jury for various Corporate Excellence Awards and Selection Committees for CEOs.

  • Prof. Diptiranjan Mahapatra, FPM (equivalent to Ph.D. in Management) from IIM, Ahmedabad

Diptiranjan Mahapatra holds a doctorate in Management from IIM Ahmedabad with a specialization in Energy & Climate Policy. He has an all-round exposure to all facets of energy value chain as well as an interdisciplinary understanding of the energy & climate change issue (technology, politics, and economics).

Subsequent to a decade-long construction project management stint in the energy, infrastructure and natural resource sector, Diptiranjan acquired a PhD degree from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, majoring in Infrastructure, Energy, and Environment Economics & Policy. Diptiranjan has been publishing consistently in the field of regulatory economics, energy fuel cycles, carbon capture & sequestration, health & non-health impacts of local pollution from electricity generation, monetization of externalities, climate change, and demand-side management.

Recently, Diptiranjan was on a long sabbatical working with BNL, Department of Energy, USA. He was involved in a project titled “Basin-Scale Leakage Risks from Geologic Carbon Sequestration: Impact on CCS Energy Market Competitiveness”, in collaboration with Princeton University and University of Minnesota.

  • Prof. Kamal Kishore Sharma, MBA, FPM (equivalent to Ph.D. in Management) from IIM, Ahmedabad

Dr. Kamal Kishore Sharma is an MBA (University Gold Medallist) & Fellow of IIM Ahmedabad. In a rich career span of 21 years post MBA, he has worked across organizations viz. Public Sector (SAIL), Government Civil Services (Indian Railways), International organizations (UN, USAID, UNEP-Risoe), Reputed Universities (Stanford & IIMA) and Global MNC (ArcelorMittal). Most recently, he was heading a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal at its Kazakhstan operations. His functional experience & skills span across Supply Chain & Logistics in Metals & Logistics industry, Energy and Environment Management, Organisation Strategy (Cost optimization, Knowledge Management, Organization Development, HRM, Talent management) and an independent profit centre responsibility as a CEO for last 3 years. He has to his credit multiple career achievement awards including Metallurgist Day award (SAIL), Best Operating manager & Best Probationer (Indian Railways), Global Leader (ArcelorMittal) etc.

Dr. Kamal earned his Fellow of IIMA award for his Doctoral Thesis titled “Future Energy Transitions in India: An Assessment of new and renewable energy technologies.” He has also published papers and made presentations at National and International seminars & workshops in his doctoral research area. He has been involved in preparing course design & taught PGP students and MDP participants at IIMA and various other management & training institutes in India and Kazakhstan. His current research interests revolve around strategic management of Indian infrastructure and resources.

Dr. Kamal also has a wide range of interests in arts, sports & social sector and hopes to enrich the learning environment at AIIM.

  • Prof. Tejas Desai, MA in mathematics from the University of Kentucky, PhD and an MS in biostatistics from the University of North Carolina

Professor Desai holds a MS and a PhD in biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also holds a MA in mathematics from the University of Kentucky. His work experience includes two years as a lecturer of mathematics at the University of Kentucky and Rutgers University; almost five years as a statistician at the Duke University Medical School; a year as a postdoc at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (USA); almost five years as an assistant professor at the Indian Institute of Management at Ahmedabad; and three years as an assistant professor at the Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management. Dr. Desai has published papers in international journals. A book of his has also been most recently been published by Springer-Verlag. Dr. Desai has also presented papers in national and international conferences. His research interests include all aspects of applied statistics. Dr. Desai is a member of the American Statistical Association.

  • Prof. Pramod Kumar Yadav, FPM (equivalent to Ph.D. in Management) from IIM, Ahmedabad

Pramod Yadav completed his Doctorate in Management from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad with an award winning thesis in the area of investment and risk management. His wide cross-disciplinary experience includes working within government, academia, international research collaboration, public sector, and private business houses.

His teaching and research focuses on finance and policy. He is interested, above all, in how financial markets and policies enable and constrain infrastructure investment, how actors of domestic and international financial (dis)intermediation interact, and why regulatory governance matters for the Global South. His publication includes research papers, policy brief and reports, cases, and a forthcoming book. His interdisciplinary research is positioned in the areas of infrastructure and public-private project financing, private equity and venture capital, bond and credit markets, energy and climate change economics, political economy and financial crisis. His forthcoming book from his PhD thesis predominantly focuses on technological-regulatory-policy issues, impact of reforms on capacity investment, adoption of low carbon electricity technologies and future restructuring strategies in Indian electricity market. He also specializes in turnarounds and mentoring of entrepreneurs and serves as advisor to many start-ups. He is also regularly invited at national and international investment forums and summits.

  • Prof. Hardik Shah, Ph.D. in Management from Nirma University and M.L.W. from the School of Social Sciences, Gujarat University.

Dr. Hardik Shah is passionate academician, researcher and trainer in HRM and OB area. He holds a Doctorate in Management from Nirma University and M.L.W. from the School of Social Sciences, Gujarat University.

Prior to joining AIIM, he was Assistant Professor and Coordinator for Fellow and Associate Programmes at Academy of HRD, Ahmedabad. He had also worked as Assistant Professor in HR/OB area at University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun. He was the Chief Editor of the Journal AJBMR and reviewer for Tata Mc-Grow Hill and ‘IJBEM’ (University of Winnipeg, Canada). He is also a certified “Assessor” and “MPTI Administrator”. His current research interests include Psychometric Assessment, Competency Mapping, Cross Functional Teams Leadership Development and Appreciative Inquiry & Coaching.

He has completed many consulting assignments in HR & Allied areas for several clients including Reliance Petroleum, GSRTC, HPCL, BPCL, SAIL, HAL, Hindustan Zing & Bank of Baroda. He has authored one book and 25 Research Papers.

  • Dr. Preeta Vyas, Ph.D. in Business Management from Gujarat University.

Dr. Preeta Vyas holds MBA (Marketing) and PhD in Business Management from Gujarat University. She received a Gold Medal for scholastic performance in B. Com. She has worked for more than 3 decades in the Marketing Area at IIMA. She has taught courses like Marketing Management and Advertising & Sales Promotion Management at IIMA and also at other B-schools in India including IIM Indore as Visiting Faculty. She has written a number of case studies in Marketing which are registered with IIMA case unit. She has participated in several international conferences and presented research papers in US, Singapore and IIMA. She has many publications in the area of sales promotion, loyalty programmes and mobile advertising.

Her research interests include marketing communication practices of Infrastructure Sector companies, applications of marketing principles and development of case studies in marketing & business development

  • Dr. Amit Shrivastava, Ph. D. in Finance from Bundelkhand University.

Dr. Amit Shrivastavaholds M.Com, PGDFM and Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Finance. He has 11 years of teaching experience in the area of Finance & Accounting.

Prior to joining AIIM, he was Assistant Professor of Finance and Faculty In-charge Incubation Centre (Family Business) at the School of Business Management, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai (2009-12). He has worked at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) as Academic Associate in the Finance & Accounting area (2005-09). He started his carrier in teaching with the Institute of Management Studies, a residential wing of Bundelkhand University, Jhansi (Year 2000).

Dr. Shrivastava has published / presented several research papers & cases in various Journals and National Conferences. At present, his Core area of interest is Financial Reporting & Analysis, Managerial Accounting & Control, Management Control Systems, Working Capital Management and Private Equity & Venture Finance.

Dr. Shrivastava has conducted Management Development Programmes (MDPs) /Training programmes for the senior and middle level executive of NOVARTIS India, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), ADANI, Venture Infotek Global Private Ltd., Mumbai, TATA Communications (TCS), Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd.   • Dr. Ganesh Devkar, Doctorate in Construction Management from IIT Madras

Dr. Ganesh A. Devkarholds a Doctorate in Construction Management from Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), M.E. in Civil Engineering with specialization in Construction Engineering and Management from Sardar Patel University and B.E. in Civil Engineering from Dr. B. A. Marathwada University.

His doctoral thesis focuses on identifying the competencies necessary for effective implementing Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) in urban service delivery and developing a framework that allows urban local bodies to assess their capability to successfully deliver projects through PPPs. During his doctoral research work, he was involved in research projects for Tamil Nadu Urban Development Fund; Ministry of Urban Development; and Institute of Water Policy, National University of Singapore.

Prior to joining AIIM, he was working as a Senior Project Officer in the Department of Management Studies, IIT Madras and was involved in systematic review project, funded by the Department for International Development (DFID) and the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID).

  • Mr. A.Balasubramanian, Senior Director, Project Finance, IDFC & former faculty at Port Management Institute.

Balasubramanian is a management and finance professional with international education and experience in the area of sea ports. Over the last two decades, he has worked in the fields of infrastructure finance and advisory services, credit rating, port training and corporate finance. He is one of the passionate advocates for maritime institutional and policy reforms and a preferred intervener on all debates for several changes to accelerate development of maritime infrastructure. Some of these initiatives include evolving model concession agreement for private investment in Indian federal ports for the Government of India, evolving entry criteria and bid process for selection of private investors in federal ports, first ever corporatisation of a federal port In India namely Ennore in south India, corporatizing the port of Ennore leading the study on institutional and regulatory reforms for the India port sector for the World Bank, presenting the case on Indian infrastructure as part of the industry delegation in China, Hongkong and Italy and chairing working groups on ports for the Indian Planning Commission.

He is presently Senior Director of the Project finance vertical at Infrastructure Development Finance Company Limited (IDFC), a new generation financial institution conceived by the Government of India and which has in addition several institutional shareholders around the globe. At IDFC, he has been involved in financing several maritime infrastructure projects sponsored by international operators including Dubai Ports World, APM group among others and in advising multilateral corporations, multilateral agencies, domestic corporate entities and the governments in the area of maritime infrastructure. Before joining IDFC, he worked in credit rating industry (Investment Information and Credit Rating Agency of India Limited (ICRA) where among other things, he advised Government of India on disinvestment program and did credit rating of several resource raising programs of several corporate entities in the infrastructure sector including seaports. As a trainer and faculty at the National Institute of Management NIPM, he was one of the resource persons for UNCTAD in the field of maritime training and led several knowledge management initiatives in the area of seaports He has led Indian delegations of senior port managers on international port exchange and education programs During the last two years he was invited by the British Government (UK Trade and Investment ) to address international port seminar in London and Liverpool .and to meet with the Duke of York to discuss on port development . He has been featured as the industry captain in the business newspapers as Economic Times and Reuters. He was invited by the World bank and Asian Development Bank to share his experience on PPP in ports at an international PPP conference in Seoul recently. He is a visiting faculty at prominent academic institutions in India.

Prof. Tripathy Arabinda B.Tech (Hons.) (IIT Kharagpur), PGDBM (XLRI), M.Sc (O.R.), (London School of Economics), Ph. D (O.R), (London School of Economics).

His areas of specialization include Operations Management, Operations Research, Quantitative Techniques and Project Management.

Prof. Tripathy moved to academics after working in the industry for over 12 years. He taught at the Indian Institute of Management for nearly 25 years. Prof. Tripathy launched a Masters level course and taught at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He was the Founder Director of the Institute of Petroleum Management, Gandhinagar, and the L&T Institute of Project Management. Prof Tripathy has published several research papers in various reputable refereed national and international journals. He has conducted management development programmes in various countries in South Asia, Far East, Middle East, C.I.S Countries and Africa. Prof Tripathy served as president of ORSI, Editor-in-chief of OPSEARCH, Editor of Developing Countries Newsletter of IFORS. Prof. Tripathy is recipient of Developing Countries Award of IFORS and EFMD Fellowship at London Business School. Prof Tripathy is on the boards of different public and private sector companies."

Mr. Rajeeva Sinha is the whole time Director of Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd, a listed Infrastructure Company in India. Mundra Port is the largest private port in India. Prior to this, he was working as the Managing Director of Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd, the first port to be privatized in India for development and management by private sector. Prof. Ravindra Kumar Singh is a full time faculty-member at Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar, Gujarat (India). He has done his graduation and post-graduation in Law from the University of Allahabad. He has earned his Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Law from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. The title of his thesis is: ‘Conception of Contracts in the Era of Information Technology: A Critical Study and Appraisal of the Diverse Aspects of Electronic Contracts’.

He has over seven years of teaching experience. His areas of research include electronic contracts, other emerging areas of the Contract Law, and Constitutional Law. He has designed and/or introduced courses like, ‘E-Contracts and International Contracts’ and ‘Advanced Contracts (Evolving Jurisprudence in Contract Law)’ at GNLU.

He has participated and presented research papers/ articles at various reputed National and International Seminars/Conferences, and has written research papers/articles on diverse aspects of the Constitutional Law, Contract Law, Legal Education, Human Rights, etc.

Dr Singh is a Life Member of the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies (ICPS), All India Law Teachers Congress; and an Associate Member of the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL).

He was the Project Convenor of Swarnim Gujarat Project on Speedy Disposal of Backlog of Cases, a research project to study the causes for the backlog of cases and to put forth pragmatic and workable recommendations for the reduction of such cases in the subordinate courts of Gujarat. He was the key instrumental in drafting the Report titled, ‘Blue Print for Reducing the Backlog of Cases from the Subordinate Courts of Gujarat’ of the said research project. He is also the Project Convenor of another project, Effectiveness of Government Measures for the Reduction of Court Cases, which has been awarded to Gujarat National Law University by the Legal Department, Government of Gujarat.

Dr. Sunil Shukla, Chief Faculty at the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), Ahmedabad has been involved in entrepreneurship teaching, training and research. His research study 'Review of Curricula on Entrepreneurship in Institutions of Higher Learning' helped University Grants Commission, Government of India in reviewing entrepreneurship curriculum. As an outcome of his research 'Entry Barriers to Entrepreneurship: As Perceived by Youth', Ministry of Small Scale Industries & Agro and Rural Industries, Government of India adopted a policy to establish Entrepreneurship and Business Development Centers in universities in the country and EDI has been made a nodal centre for its implementation.

A third generation taxman in his family, Jigar Mukesh Patel graduated his LL.M. with Honours in International Taxation from the prestigious New York University School of Law in May, 2007. He received the ‘International Student Leadership Award’ from the New York University in recognition of his all round performance and outstanding achievements. He was the first Indian amongst international students from around 50 countries studying at NYU to have received this coveted honour. Dr. Bhargav Adhvaryu heads the Infrastructure Engineering & Management program at CEPT University. He has nearly 13 years of work experience in academics, research, and consulting.

He teaches courses covering topics such as: urban & transport planning, design, and management; sustainable urban development; urban modelling; and quantitative techniques and research methods. His research and practice interests spans a wide variety of interlinked areas such as sustainable cities and transport; transport infrastructure planning, design, and management; enhancing development/master planning using analytical tools and techniques; land use—transport interaction modelling and incorporating economic aspects into models of cities; and urban development management

He worked as Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, UK for two and half years. Her expertise is in disciplines of Organization Behaviour, Organization Development, Sensitivity Training, Change Management, Communication and related disciplines.

Earlier, she has worked as a manager in Gujarat State Finance Corporation; also consulted various organizations in India, and trained employees at various levels.

From the period 1990 – 2005 She was associated with Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in different capacities. She began her tenure as a Research Associate. At the institute she has authored (or co-authored with IIMA Faculty) many research papers.

Prof. Mayank Upadhyay has over two decades of experience in industry, consulting and academics. Over his long association with leading financial Institutions, he has developed expertise in areas of retail banking, resource planning & credit appraisal, credit monitoring and rehabilitation.

He has been a consultant for international organizations such as UNIDO, World Bank, Islamic Development Bank, Common Wealth Secretariat, ILO, IFAD, BADEA, etc. He has led consulting teams for several national and international assignments.

He has been associated as a visiting faculty with several leading management institutions including IIM Ahmedabad and Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI). At EDI, he heads the Finance and Accounts area and is a member of its Post Graduate Programmes Executive Committee. His teaching interests are in the area of finance, accounting, strategic management, project formulation & appraisal. He has co-edited a UNIDO manual on ‘Project Formulation and Appraisal’.

For the last ten years, he is the chief executive officer of three NGOs engaged mainly in the areas of community education, community development, population education and youth development.

Vidyanidhee Vanarase (Prasad) is a graduate of the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi. He has directed more than 50 plays and short plays in Marathi, Hindi, Konkani, Kannada and English. He has also translated and adapted plays in Marathi. He has gained proficiency in three interrelated areas Direction, Administration & Management of Arts and Applied Arts. He is associated with London International Festival of Theater (LIFT) and works as National Creative Co-coordinator of Project Phakama in India. He has been involved in theatre training for more than 13 years and has worked as visiting faculty/guest director at several universities and theatre institutes in India and abroad.

  • Prof. G.S. Gupta ,Former Professor of Economics, IIM, Ahmedabad

G. S. Gupta, Ph. D. (Johns Hopkins), MA and BA (MS University, Baroda) is currently an Adjunct Faculty in Economics at IIM, Indore and Distinguished Visiting Faculty at Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad. Prior to this, he was a Professor of Economics at IIM, Ahmedabad for over 35 years. His other positions include Bank of Baroda Chair Professor in International Banking and Finance at IIM, Ahmedabad, Dean/Professor of Eminence at the Institute of Management, Nirma University, Visiting Professor of Economics at Illinois State University, Professor at the School of Business, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Consultant at Resource Management Centre, Maryland, USA, and Lecturer of Economics at M. S. University, Baroda.

Prof. Gupta has authored/co-authored six books, published about 70 articles in referred national and international journals, and has prepared many management cases and technical notes. He has guided and co-guided 28 doctoral dissertations, offered consulting services to many public and private enterprises, served as the Conference President for Gujarat Economic Association and as a member in several boards of studies/management and editorial boards of academic journals, chaired technical sessions and presented papers and invited keynote addresses at several national and international conferences, and has been an Independent Director on the Board of Directors of Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd. His areas of specialization include economic theory and policy, econometrics and international finance.

Dr. Gupta was awarded the University Fellowship for his doctoral studies, Gold Medal for standing first in his Masters’ exam, and National Plan Scholarship for scholastic performance in BA exam. A couple of his research papers have received the Best Paper awards, and his books on Managerial Economics and Macro Economics have run into multiple editions and reprints and have been adopted as Text books at many institutions across the country. He enjoys the status of being invited to serve IIM Ahmedabad on over a three year full-time contract even after superannuation. He has taught full courses at six IIMs, one IIT and several other reputed business schools.
